Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Nemanja Vidic, Gary Neville and Louis Saha are all making good progress with their recovery from injury, while Patrice Evra should be fit to face Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The French left-back hobbled out of Tuesday's 2-0 win over Sheffield United with a calf complaint after a heavy tackle by Colin Kazim-Richards in the 21st minute.
Sir Alex says Evra has responded to treatment and will be available for the Teessiders' visit, as will John O'Shea (calf) and Rio Ferdinand (groin).
Elsewhere on the injury front, the United boss is hoping to have Neville (ankle) available for United's trip to Everton on Saturday week, while Vidic (collarbone) has a chance of returning to action in two weeks time.
Sir Alex hasn't put an exact date on Saha's possible return from a hamstring strain, but the boss insists things are looking much more positive.
"The situation is getting better," he told Manchester United Radio. "John O'Shea and Rio are back for Saturday and I think Patrice Evra will also be okay.
"Gary won't be ready for Middlesbrough or Milan but will hopefully be back for the Everton match. Vidic has been training and he could be ready in two weeks, while Louis Saha is starting to progress a bit now."
The Reds' boss is expecting a tough encounter against Gareth Southgate's men whom he fully expects to come and defend.
"I'm sure that will happen," he insisted. "There are areas we need to concentrate on - their two front players [Yakubu and Viduka] can be a handful and Stewart Downing is a good crosser of the ball.
"We've just got to play our football and enjoy ourselves. If we can play with the penetration we've shown all the season then I think we'll be okay."
thank fuck for that!

O'Shea--Rio--Brown--Evra
looks a lot better than
Fletcher--Brown--Heinze--Richardson
it should be enough, and then Gaz will be back for the Milan 2nd leg so itll only be Vidic out.
Great news.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Louis Saha's ongoing absence will only end once the striker is completely free of lingering injury doubts.
The French striker's United career had been blighted by knocks until the start of the 2006/07 season, when his sustained run in the team prompted regular goalscoring form.
However, a recurrent hamstring injury has restricted Saha to just four starts this calendar year, and Sir Alex admits Louis is understandably keen to be in optimum condition before returning for the season's run-in.
"We feel he's back, it's just the confidence to make sure he feels right," said Sir Alex. "Louis in his own mind has got to feel 100 percent fit.
"He just felt his hamstring a bit after the game against Roma over there when he came on as a substitute. In training the next day he felt it a little bit. I think there's a cautious approach, that he wants to feel 100 percent fit."

Vidic will be back in training on Monday!!
He's been in the gym since he's been injured, and he was already our hard man
Quote:
Injury-hit Manchester United could be boosted by the return of Nemanja Vidic before the end of the season.
Vidic, 25, broke his collarbone in United's 4-1 win against Blackburn in March and was ruled out for five weeks.
Boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Vidic is coming along very, very well, and he starts training on Monday.
"He's been doing some work in the gym but on Monday he'll start some serious work and hopefully he might possibly be available for the latter games."
Ferguson also hopes several others will return before the end of the campaign as United chase a second Treble.
"Gary Neville is progressing quite well, there's a chance he'll be ready for Everton.
"We'll make a decision on Ji-sung Park next week.
"We've seen the specialist and hopefully we can get an opinion on what the next stage should be.
"Louis Saha is continuing his progress with the physios, but I don't think he'll be fit for this week."
United do have Rio Ferdinand, John O'Shea and Patrice Evra fit after minor injuries.

a well welcomed news from the injured players .
biggest relief is the return of vidic to training.since we are doing well with out saha and rooney hitting form on time for us, we can be safe even if saha is out of action til the end of season.

man hoped he would make it sooner then the others but it seems he wont, we could realy use his skills in the cl and the league to cover up ronaldo or giggs.

a double blow...no victory plus more injuries
Quote:
Injuries continue to mount
United's injury nightmares continued as Rio Ferdinand limped off against Middlesbrough with a recurrence of the groin injury he picked up in the FA Cup semi final seven days ago.
The stand-in United captain appeared to tweak his muscle just minutes before the break while snuffing out a Boro attack. The visitors then snatched an equaliser in first-half injury time, with Ferdinand hobbling.
Sir Alex confirmed Ferdinand's injury had a major impact on the result and said the defender will likely miss the Reds' next four games.
"Rio's injury was the biggest blow because I felt that if we could get into half-time 1-0 up we'd be okay," the boss said. "His injury isn't long-term… [I'd say he'll be out for], possibly, two weeks. He should be back for the Chelsea game.
"But they got that goal in injury time [and] I think if Rio had been fit they wouldn't have got it. That's the breaks in football and you have to accept these things."
The Reds were dealt another blow when Kieran Richardson also failed to appear for the second half. Richardson and Ferdinand join a host of other United stars on the treatment table, including Nemanja Vidic, Mikael Silvestre, Ji-sung Park, Louis Saha and Gary Neville. The United boss also revealed youngster Craig Cathcart, drafted into the first team in recent weeks, is a long-term casualty
"We're now playing with just 12 fit players, really," Sir Alex said. "Cathcart's out for the season too. He was injured during training this week, so we don't really have any other defenders to call on. We're down to the bare bones."
The one positive seems to be French full-back Patrice Evra, who could return on Tuesday night when AC Milan come to Old Trafford in the Champions League.

So that is why we had no defenders on the bench we have none left!
Cathcart injured too ffs!
So at the end of the Boro gme we had; Neville, Vidic, Rio, Evra, Silvestre, Cathcart, Richardson, Park, and Saha all injured. 9 players from a first team squad of about 22 is a joke.

Manchester United's defensive crisis could be eased by the return of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in time to face AC Milan on Wednesday.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says Ferdinand seems a definite to make the Champions League semi-final second leg.
And Vidic is waiting on the results of a scan on his broken collarbone to decide whether he can play in Italy.
"Nemanja has a scan on Monday and, once we get the results of that, we have a decision to make," Ferguson said.
Midfielder Ji-Sung Park will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.
But striker Louis Saha is also on the mend and is set to return from a hamstring injury in time to face Everton on Saturday.

That looks like great news. It's off BBC Sport.

saha will be on the bench for evertoon game, and a little note on vida.
Quote:
Saha handed bench place
Louis Saha will be among the substitutes for United's crucial Premiership trip to Everton on Saturday lunchtime.
The French forward has been out of action for nearly a month with a troublesome hamstring injury. But he will be available for the Reds at Goodison Park as United go in search of another vital victory which will edge them ever closer to the Premiership title.
"We don't have any more injuries from Tuesday, thank goodness," said Sir Alex on Friday. "There are one or two niggles after such a high-tempo European game.
"Going to Everton is very difficult," he added. "European football does take it out of you, but hopefully the extra day's rest having played on the Tuesday will enable us to get the players into good shape. It's a vital game for us."
Meanwhile, Sir Alex is hopeful that Rio Ferdinand will be fit to face AC Milan in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg at the San Siro.
The Reds defender hobbled out of United's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough last weekend after aggravating a groin injury, but he is making good progress with his rehabilitation and has a good chance of facing the Rossoneri.
Ferdinand's central defensive partner Nemanja Vidic will go for a scan on Monday to see how his broken collarbone is progressing. His chances of making the Milan match are minimal, but, all being well, he may make the short Premiership trip to Manchester City next Saturday.
"Nemanja has been training really well," said the United boss. "He has a scan on Monday and once we get the results of that, we have a decision to make."
United skipper Gary Neville is seemingly no nearer to a return. He suffered swelling in his ankle last week. Nevertheless, Sir Alex remains hopeful that he will play again this season.
