Park injury concern for Reds

Ji-sung Park will undergo tests in Korea next week after complaining of “discomfort” in his knee while on international duty.

The 27-year-old winger has played two 90-minute World Cup qualifiers for South Korea since United’s season ended, scoring in a 2-2 draw against Jordan on May 31.

But the knee injury which required surgery and sidelined him for nine months last year has since flared up, ruling him out of Saturday’s qualifier in Turkmenistan.

However, both Park and Korea’s medical staff are hopeful the setback is not serious and that he will return for the game against North Korea next Sunday.

“I don’t feel any pain and walking is fine, but there is some water in my knee,” Park said. “This is the first time I have felt it since the operation.”

South Korea national team doctor Dong-eun Shin added: “He is not feeling pain, but he is experiencing discomfort, so we are putting his knee under light treatment.”

United are awaiting further news from Korea’s medical staff, who will assess Park further when he returns to Korea from Turkmenistan next week.

Park made his United comeback at Christmas and played an important role in the Reds’ Double triumph, declaring that he felt fitter than ever.

even the pre-season havent started an injury news....lest that be the 1st n last

Manucho Injury To Force Fergie's Hand?

Manchester United may now have to delve into the transfer market after Manucho Goncalves reported to pre-season training with a foot injury...

X-rays will confirm whether Manucho has, as suspected, become the latest victim of the dreaded metatarsal fracture while on international duty with Angola.

Sir Alex Ferguson had planned to give the 25-year-old an extensive run-out during United’s pre-season tour of Africa, to see if he was capable of dislodging fellow forwards Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez in the first team.

But this setback could see Sir Alex open the chequebook and splash out on either Dimitar Berbatov or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, as he is desperate to find another line-leading option for next season.

Would be a big shame. I for one was looking forward to seeing just how he'd fit in.

Manucho will go out on loan this season, trust me. You don't go from playing in the Angolan league to playing for Manchester United in one season. Hell, he struggled to get playing time in Greece and some of you think he's coming to come in and play for us?

thats why we need him to be fit as a fiddle for the pre-season.if he stays after the pre-season he will get that 1/2 odd games and from there on fergie can asses him.

at the moment we are quite thin on the strike department, so i guess it wont hurt to have him around

As Duke said, we need to assess him in our preseason fixtures. We all knew/know that Manucho is a longshot, which is why noones saying "don't sign Huntelaar, we've got Manucho" or anything like that. But he was very impressive in the African nations, and is spoken of very highly by Quieroz (who recommended him, and when he recommends a player . . .) and Ferguson.

Manucho could be an extremely useful squad player - I don't think anyone believes for one moment that he will displace Tevez, Rooney or even Saha (and certainly not Huntelaar) - but as someone coming off the bench to rotate strikers he could certainly find a niche ...

agreed, he might not be in league wth our other strikers as of yet but given the time he could be a revelation to us. a drogba of united of sort.

it will take time but i have faith in him that he will go one better then the flops we had in the past.

When I look at strikers making an impact coming off the subs' bench, the gold standards are Solskjaer and Sheringham. Anything less will ultimately be viewed (justified or not) as disappointing ...

One of the reasons he didn't get much playing time in Greece was cos of a few injuries, but he scored a good number of goals when he played.

Disappointing though, you need at least 4 strikers if you want to play a variation of a 4-4-2 throughout the season, considering Saha is broken, atm that only leaves Rooney & Tevez, so we're two short, especially if Campbell isn't given a shot, and we won't buy more than 1 striker this summer so...

Ronaldo surgery 'successful'

Cristiano Ronaldo underwent surgery today (Monday 7 July) on his right ankle.

The operation was performed by Professor C. Niek van Dijk at The Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam and initial indications are that the procedure was successful.

Cristiano will begin his convalescence under the direction of club medical staff and an estimation of his return to full fitness will be possible following a review by the specialist in one month.

ronaldo's surgery a success, wishing him a speedy recovery.

Unless he moves to Madrid in which case we very much wish for him to take Louis Saha's luck with injuries with him ...
