Shame to see Pique leave, but to be fair, he has to think about his own career. 12 games in 4 years is not exactly the stuff that a quality career is built on, so he needs to be someplace that he might get a look in. I don't know how much more time he will get at Barca, although with the clearout that is going to happen this summer, who knows? The one thing that I respect about Pique is that he always said that the one club he would leave United for would be Barca - where he started. So he has returned to his roots, and I suspect he'll do quite well ....

Well Puyol will be a definate starter under Guardiola.

Milito is out for 6 months at least, Marquez looks like he might be sold and Thuram is leaving on a free transfer which means that Pique will be starting a lot to begin with.

Barca had a bid for Caceres rejected today tho so they're looking for another CB and Caceres might start over Pique so when Milito gets back it would demote Pique to 3rd or 4th choice CB although that depends on how well he plays before then.

I haven't heard anything on the official price yet. Does anyone know it?

I remember reading €5M at one point, he only had a year left on his contract so I don't imagine it was much...

Shame on United's part, both Rossi and Pique not given a chance and both moved on to top clubs, waste.

Good luck to Pique.

Good luck to Pique.

It's not a waste, it was bad luck. Rio and Vidic are much better than Pique, when every match is important to the title, you can't afford to break up the best CB pairing in the Premiership to give a youth player minutes. Not to mention, by most accounts, Evans is a better prospect than Pique.

Fergie thought that we needed to add Tevez in order to maintain the title this year. That put both Tevez and Rooney at the same position Rossi plays. Would you rather have Rossi over Rooney or Tevez?

The bottom line is, Fergie wanted both Pique and Rossi to stay, but neither were willing to sit on the bench and wait for their chance, so they left.

Fair enough, of course we have better players, but they're still not ordinary youngsters, a bit more faith in them wouldn't have gone amiss imo.

Like when O'Shea was played at CB and was making a hash of things and Pique was brought on at HT and the defensive was far more solid, was that v Boro? Pique could have started rather than O'Shea, or against teams like Derby...

Pique had the ability, he was fine v Roma and Arsenal, a few errors but nothing as nerve-wracking as when Heinze was forced there or something...

In the grand scheme of things this doesn't make much of a difference since there will be other CBs, it's nice to have a budding superstar though.

its not about breaking the best partnership but more of being prepared for the worst and at the same time rest.wch in today hectic schedule can destroy a clubs season.im wth kyan that its still a big loss on our part.

now thats a whole different story.rooney and tevez are instrumental to us but on some of the game that e needed another striker when we dont have them it would have been nice to have rossi.

early on the season we got off to a bad start wth injuries and suspension and in those games that we dropped points would be different if we had a 4th striker.thats how we missed on rossi.but since it was him leaving despite fergie wanting him wth us as u pointed, i say that lessens the blow of losing a good player.

but then again we havent been left to rue at the end as we did retain the double.

I think you're both forgetting that both Pique and Rossi WANTED to leave. Of course it would be nice to have both on the bench when injuries come, but neither was willing to sit and wait for their chance, they wanted playing time now, so they both chose to leave. I believe Fergie would have kept both had they not asked to go.

Yes, but they wanted to leave because they weren't getting any playing time.

Pique got 5 league starts all season, he didn't even automatically qualify for a league medal (total of 9 appearances). If he'd have had a few more games I doubt he would have been so set on leaving this summer.

It's a shame, but Evans is a better prospect.

And he's a fan of the club also, so he'll stay as long as SAF wants him to.
