Man Utd, Chelsea go for West Ham's Tevez

Manchester United and Chelsea have joined the race for West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez.

The News of the World says West Ham's Argentine striker is already being chased by Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

The Hammers have first refusal to buy Tevez, 23, at the end of the season.

But they will not pay the £25million price tag even if they survive in the Premiership.

Chairman Eggert Magnusson has made no attempt to open talks with Kia Joorabchian, the man who owns the rights to Tevez.

Joorabchian was behind the loan deal that took Tevez and fellow Argie Javier Mascherano to Upton Park in August.

Third parties have already discussed a potential deal to move him to Stamford Bridge.

Nah, he's been linked with all the top clubs in recent seasons but they've never actually happened. Reason being he's talented, but in all reality he can't make it into a Spurs side (although they are superb in attack) because he's not got enough to his game, too 1 dimensional IMO, but I still rate him, just not at the top level, at least not yet.

Yeah, Defoe can't really offer us anything up front that we don't already have, nor can he actually improve us up top.

The general feeling seems to be that United will be in the market for a central midfielder and a striker in the summer, and the media seems to be throwing the names of a lot of left wingers too. It'll be an interesting summer when it comes anyway.

Sampdoria sports director Beppe Marotta has revealed an offer has arrived from Manchester United for star striker Fabio Quagliarella.
The new Italy cap, 23, is co-owned by Samp and Udinese and has been followed by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for the last two months.

Marotta revealed last night to Tutto Mercato Web: "I can now confirm the offer from Manchester United, but it only represents one of several possibilities

"We will have to do our accounts with Udinese, the joint owner of his contract, and consider the will of the player ahead of such important offers.

"Quagliarella has a 50-60% chance of remaining with Sampdoria. If it was up to me, I believe he would improve quicker remaining in Genoa."

He looks like a very good player. He's carried Sampdoria to 8th place with 12 goals in 23 starts - the only player in their sqaud to put the ball in the net more than 5 times. His goals are great to watch too! Haven't seen him play a full 90 though, so I don't know much about his overall team play, mentallity, etc, etc. The Sampdoria manager has put an £11m price tag on Quagliarelli's head, with Inter, AC Milan, us and another non-Italian outfit interested.

Lille star Jean Makoun claims that Arsenal could launch a summer bid for his services, with Manchester United apparently still keeping close tabs on his progress as well.

Makoun spurned the advances of both United and Lyon last summer and he remains one of Ligue 1's most coveted performers.

The Cameroon midfielder signed a new deal with the French side in October, but, with the summer transfer window appearing on the horizon, speculation regarding a move to the Premiership has arisen once more.

The 23-year-old claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has contacted him, and that the North London side are a possible destination should he opt to leave Lille.

Makoun has also insisted he remains in contact with Premiership leaders Manchester United despite their continued interest in Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves.

"Arsenal are a possibility," admitted Makoun in the Sunday Mirror.

"I know their scouts have come to see me play several times and I have had a phone call from Arsene Wenger too."

Makoun added regarding United: "They were in touch with me last year and I know they are still interested because I am still in contact with them."

The Lille star reportedly has a £14million release clause inserted in his contract and the French side's resolve to keep their star man looks likely to be tested when the transfer window opens.

This guy creeps up again, but £14m? I can't see it happening.

On Eidur:

Eidur Gudjohnsen's agent has played down talk linking the player with a move to Manchester United.

The Barcelona forward has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou of late, having fallen down the pecking order of Frank Rijkaard's plans.

Reports emanating from Spain have suggested Manchester United are lining up a move for the Icelandic international in the summer.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be a big admirer of Gudjohnsen and is believed to be willing to bring the former Chelsea man back to England.

However, the player's father and agent Arnor Gudjohnsen insists the former Bolton man is determined to fight for his place and prove himself at Camp Nou.

"I know nothing about [interest from Manchester United]," Gudjohnsen told skysports.com.

"It has not been a good moment for Eidur as he not been getting a lot of chances to play games.

"I have heard nothing from Barcelona regarding Eidur's future.

"He is determined to prove himself at Barcelona and he wants to give it 100 per cent to be a success."

Barcelona's sport director Txiki Beguiristain insists the club will wait until the end of the season before making any decisions on possible transfers.

"Until the end of the season we are not in a position to touch the subject of exits or arrivals," Beguiristain told El Mundo Deportivo.

Manchester United, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa are all reported to be hot on the trail of Spartak Moscow starlet Vladimir Bystrov.

The 23-year-old winger is rated as the brightest young talent in Russia and a host of clubs are said to be keeping close tabs on him.

Initial reports suggested two English sides were looking at Bystrov and it is claimed in Russia that they are United and Boro, although Villa have also now been credited with an interest.

Bystrov has a release clause in his contract and it was reported that both United and Boro were close to matching this figure — but the player has denied that he has even thought about leaving Russia.

"I've heard that a few English clubs showed an interest in me but it'll be better to ask my agent about it," Bystrov told the Russian daily Sport.

"My contract with Spartak includes a point that allows me to go to another club if a customer will pay a definite sum for me.

"I didn't think about the possibility to move. But this could be a great chance, I don't think that it'll be worse than staying here."

Spartak general director Sergei Shavlo denied that the club had received any interest from England.

"Nobody from England asked us about Bystrov," Shavlo told Sport Express.

"Spartak isn't planning to sell Bystrov."

Bystrov has emerged as a real force in Russian football since arriving at Spartak in 2005, when they paid Zenit St Petersburg just over £3million for his services
