United Move For Berbatov
Quote:
Manchester United have reportedly made their first major move of the summer by bidding for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov…
According to The Sun, United last night lodged a ₤20million bid for Berbatov, thus finally following through on their long-term interest in the Bulgarian international.
Sir Alex Ferguson believes the ex-CSKA Sofia hitman will provide a perfect counterpoint to the likes of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez in United’s forward-line, which has been missing a target-man since Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure in 2006.
Berbatov has been widely tipped to leave White Hart Lane this summer after two sensational seasons that saw him tally 46 goals and a similarly impressive number of assists.
The former Bayer Leverkusen player is desperate for a return to the Champions League and has courted interest from the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan, but both were scared off by the 27-year-old's intial ₤30million price tag.
Spurs boss Juande Ramos is unwilling to sell his prize forward, but his extensive spending this year – totalling around ₤50million thus far – means he must bring in more funds before continuing his summer renovations.

lol thats not what i meant, what i mean is can we use him to the max efficiency wth the rest of the team, how ill he adapt wth the new surrounding and such.
coz right now we have a very good set up, not a closaed down system a very open and united one.so its important that we can find a player that can slot in to the system wth out we changing to much of what we have.

Berbatov would be an excellent signing.
He's big, strong, technically brilliant, is always involved with assists and scores goals.
He would slot in perfectly...........

Berbatov's not perfect, I'd prefer someone with more pace, but he just may be our best available option. I'd much rather have him than Huntleaar.

Berbatov's agent is "certain" we're interested in him. Another plus to signing Berba would be Liverpool not getting Robbie Keane.
Quote:
Dimitar Berbatov's agent is 'certain' Manchester United are interested in signing the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
Berbatov's future at White Hart Lane has been the subject of conjecture for some time, with the 27-year-old linked with a move away from North London for much of last season.
United have been strongly linked with Berbatov in the past; however a move in January failed to materialise.
Fresh reports in Saturday's press claimed that the Premier League and UEFA Champions League holders had offered £20million for the Bulgaria international.
Speaking of the rumours linking the Red Devils with a bid for Berbatov, the forward's agent has claimed United are monitoring his situation at Spurs.
"I know for certain Manchester United have shown interest in signing Dimitar Berbatov," agent Emil Danchev told Bulgaria's Darik radio. "But I'm not entitled to make any more comments."

Thirty-one days to go until the season starts ... and still no new arrivals. The fans have been teased with the arrivals of Huntelaar, Berbatov and a host of others ... and yet, nothing.
Now I'm starting to get nervous ...

Regardless of Ronaldo's future for the whole season, we're without him for around 12 weeks. An injury to Rooney or Tevez means that Saha might actually have to stay healthy, and I wouldn't want those odds ... that's why I'm nervous I'd like to see United complete their deals in the next couple of days so the players have some time to come in and get adjusted before the new season begins ...

Too true mate, but I think the Berba deal is close. In saying that, I thought the Huntelaar deal was close...................
Anyway, Tottenham aren't a big club fending off a big club (as we are with Madrid). Spurs are a selling club (a la Carrick). Ramos has already said that he will sell the current squad and replace them with his own players. And Berba has stated that he wants to join us.
I think we'll see an announcement when we return from South Africa next weekend.

With the current deterioration of relations between United and Spurs, maybe United should switch back to their pursuit of Huntelaar ...
