Big big money for a 17-year-old. Not sure what to think about this, I haven't seen him play at all...
|
yeah, wth pique, evans and a a whole a lot of other young lads we have i wonder if its wise to spend that much.since even the ones we have are not getting that much games.

Ramsey's a bit different in that he's apparently incredibly versatile, I think he made his debut at RB, but usually plays either RW or LW but can play CM as well.
It's a bit easier to break into the team in midfield or up front though, just because it's a lot harder to rotate the back 4 because if 1 of the players makes a mistake in defence it could cost you the game whereas it's less so up front...

Not seen very much of him at all. He does show composure an the ball though, and from what I have seen, is energetic (albeit I'm basing this on a few substitute appearances).
Up front it's very difficult to break through at United. It's another pressure position, same as at CB. We don't bring through a lot of CBs or CFs these days because of this. If Ramsey is very versatile as you say, he could find it easier to get his name on the teamsheet, although at 17 I doubt we'd use him all that much, if we actually did sign him.

Don't forget from next season onwards it'll be 7 players on the bench for each game.
But I do think it's easier to get in in midfield or up front rather than at CB though, look at players like Anderson and Nani in comparison with Pique and Evans...
Anyway, new/continued rumours:
Goal.com - Portugal - Veloso Drops Premiership Hint
Veloso linked again, lots of potential, primarily DM but can play LB, it would be good to have some cover at LB and a left-footed set-piece taker option but another CM is really not a priority.
and
Barcelona have agreed a £6m fee with Manchester United for 21-year-old defender Gerard Pique, who arrived at Old Trafford from the Catalan club in 2004. (Daily Mail)
Real shame.

Veloso isn't really a LB though. He's an emergency answer there for Sporting. To quote a Sportinguista I know, he play's LB "near to never." I'd rather Silvestre or Sheasy there, so the idea of Veloso covering at LB just seems redundant to me.

A winger and a midfielder, yeah, but when was the last time a striker broke through us. Even Rossi, who was a key player in Parma's relegation escape and is a big part of Villareal now, couldn't cut it. Same with Pique, yeah. I think young keepers, CBs and CFs will always find it very difficult to break through at United without being a Wayne Rooney. Mainly because they are the high pressure position, and the roles where confidence is most often on a knife edge.
The Aaron Ramsey situation is far more similar to the Gareth Bale situation a couple of years, more than in terms of nationality. Again there's talk of moving him around positionally, again the price is quoted around £10m, again the competition is said to be fierce, and again he's a talented lad in a position we don't need recruitment in. Biggest difference is that Bale was better at the time. But I'm thinking another similarity with the Bale episode will present itself, in that rather than sign him, we'll leave a mid-table team to get him.

New news:
Manchester United look like they will miss out on £10m rated Antonio Valencia who looks set to remain at Wigan. (El Universo 1859 BST)
I think that's good news tbh, the £10M could probably be spent better elsewhere...

Manchester United have made bids for French youngsters Jeremy Helan and Darnel Situ. Helan is a 15-year-old Rennes left-back, and one of the most sought after teenagers in European football, while French Under-16 captain Situ could also make the switch to Old Trafford from Lens. (Daily Mail)

We've been linked with Croatia's keeper, Stipe Pletikosa.
According to Russian reports United are deep in talks, but I just can't see the point of this move, unless Foster's leaving.

Tom Heaton's joined Cardiff on loan for next season, maybe part of a Ramsey deal?

I wonder how much Cardiff would value a loan of Heaton compared to a young starlet though. And I'm still not convinced Ramsey would add much to the squad.
The keeper thing is just weird. Kuszczak has been decent backup to van der Sar, whose been top class, and Foster is still twiddling his thumbs on the sidelines with all the expected potential. Pletikosa wouldn't be coming without someone leaving.
And the Pique thing looks pretty much final:
Quote:
According to the Catalan defender, since he made it clear that he wanted to go back to Camp Nou, Sir Alex Ferguson has left him out of things to show his unhappiness.
Piqué is on the verge of completing a €10m transfer back to Barça, four years after he opted to leave the club because he felt that he would have a better chance of making it at Old Trafford.
"Since I have started talking to Barcelona, Ferguson has virtually ignored me," Piqué told Sport. "The best thing is going to be arriving. I hope that a solution can be reached soon and that my future will be clarified.
"On Friday I will be in Barcelona to prepare to play for Catalunya against Argentina and for the time being I still have a year left on my contract with United."
Despite not being included in the Champions League final squad, Piqué was told by the rest of the players to join in with the celebrations having played a role in helping the team to the final in Moscow.
"I felt like a very important part of history," he continued. "It was more than a triumph because it is 50 years since the Munich tragedy and we owed the Busby Babes that cup.
"Sir Bobby Charlton came to speak to the squad and explained to us exactly what happened. I will never again live through a moment like that.
"It was also very special for Giggsy to beat Sir Bobby's record and for Scholesy because he could not play in the last final. It was the perfect end to the season."

New defender needed? Or would keeping Silveste and bringing Evans in suffice?

rb: neville, brown, hargreaves, oshea
cb: rio, vidic, brown, silvestre
lb: evra, silvestre, evans
thats plenty for me... and, those brazilian twins may be getting a call-up???
MAYBE... MAAAAAAAAYBE another versatile defender would do, but that may be asking alot

ohhh.. i thought he was a youngster.if he is 29 then this does come as big laugh
well if pique is set on leaving this means we will need to add another defender on the wish list.so now it makes for 2 defenders, 1 striker then.

Come to think of it, Ferguson's always prefered experienced keeper. If he is looking to replace van der Sar, this wouldn't be too far off. Personally, I think van der Sar will still be good enough next season, coming off the back of a very good season here.

And finally, to end on a realistic note:

Ferguson Toys With New Striker Signing
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that he will look to bring in another striker in the hope of easing the pressure on Wayne Rooney.
The Red Devils have been continually linked with Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov who is expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer, with Lyon’s Karim Benzema also being touted as a target.
While Cristiano Ronaldo has drawn plaudits around the globe after scoring forty-two goals in an incredible season, Rooney has at times struggled to replicate the form that saw him tipped to establish himself as the best striker in the world when he joined the club in 2004.
Rooney developed an effective partnership with summer-recruit Carlos Tevez as The Red Devils marched to Premiership and Champions League glory, but Ferguson has admitted that he is yet to find the England international’s best position within the free-scoring team.
“We know we have to work with Wayne in terms of finding his right position. I’m not sure what that is sometimes.
“He’s fantastic when he’s aggressive up front but when he drops in he offers so many options in terms of balance and looking at a situation quickly.
“So we’ve got to make up our mind. It would help me if we could get another player, a centre-forward maybe.”
Rooney Praise
When asked why Rooney had not developed as quickly as Ronaldo has within his side, Ferguson said: “Ah, but he’s eight months younger. Wait and you might see something.”
The 66-year old is impressed with the way that Rooney and Ronaldo have responded to the growing press focus they have faced this season, citing Rooney’s girlfriend Coleen McLoughin as a key factor in the level of maturity he has displayed.
“They’re great pals [Rooney and Ronaldo]. I don’t think it affects the boy, no.
“Wayne’s a winner. It doesn’t bother him one bit. He’s got that, I suppose, Liverpool attitude, that ‘bugger you all’ type thing.
“And he doesn’t court celebrity. His girlfriend is great that way too. She’s a clever girl, down to earth.”
