Still if Berbatov who's 7 years his senior is being labelled with £31M Benzema for £20M would probably be a bargain.

I don't know about that.

How can I explain . . . you know how much Sven loves Drogba? Well if Berbatov played for us, I too would be "crying happy thoughts."

O and I also forgot to mention. I was listening to The Game Podcast 2 nights ago and Gabrielle Marcotti seems very confident that United will be signing Miguel Veloso this summer, and loaning him back to Sporting for the year. I know we're well covered in CM but he can play LB too and he is real quality...

Fair play he looks a quality player, but I seriously doubt we're gonna buy a player for £15m odd, and then loan him back to their old club. It's just nonsensicle too me.

And the cover in CM is now incredible - Scholes, Hargreaves, Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher and O'Shea. To make room for Veloso, you'd want to be selling Fletcher and Sheasy and pushing Scholes to retire. Now there's no way Veloso is worth those lengths, imo. If anything we're crowded there, with Anderson and Hargreaves forming such a good partnership, Scholes coming back from injury, Carrick looking like finding some form and Fletcher being linked with a move away on loan.

And once again....................

Rumour mill: Reds in the Hunt

11/ 1/2008

UNITED have been linked with a £12m swoop for Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

The Reds, who reportedly failed with a bid for Huntelaar last January, could be in the market for a forward with Louis Saha having endured an injury-hit campaign.

Now The Sun report that United are ready to go back in for Huntelaar, who has scored 53 goals in 65 games for Ajax.

With Saha injured YET again the Huntelaar signing could be more likely now.

In other news, Essien had a trial with Man Utd when he was 17 and has said that he was a United fan as a kid, here's the link to the story:

Goal.com - England - Essien: I Should Have Gone To United

And according to murmurs in the press Ole is going to be knighted in Norway for being a great role model. Can't think of anyone who deserves it more.

Gilberto Linked To Man Utd
Reports from Germany claim that Hertha Berlin’s Brazilian midfielder Gilberto is close to signing for Manchester United.

The Brazilian’s contract with Hertha is due to expire at the end of the season, and he and his agent have refused so far to open up negotiations to extend it.

‘Bild am Sonntag’ claims that is because his agent Alexandre Martins is in advanced discussions with the Premiership giants over a move to England.

The newspaper claims that the contract has been agreed and is just awaiting the player’s signature. The deal will take him up to the 2010 World Cup, when Gilberto says he will retire.

Hertha Berlin are currently in Tenerife at their winter training headquarters. From there, Gilberto has been rather quiet on the rumours, without denying them outright.

“I don’t want to say too much about it. I have a number of offers, and perhaps I’ll stay in Berlin. Or perhaps I’ll go to England or Portugal or even back to Brazil. I am not worried” he said.

Gilberto is a key player for the Selecao and being a ‘free transfer’ is wanted by a number of top clubs with Benfica confirmed as very interested.

The defensive midfielder has however stated his desire to win things- something which stands in United’s favour.

“With Brazil I’m used to winning titles and I want that with my club side too” Gilberto revealed.

The 31 year old joined Hertha in 2004 from São Caetano, after earlier spells with Gremio, Vasco da Gama and Flamengo.

Goal.com - Germany - Gilberto Linked To Man Utd

I think this rumour's just trying to drum up more interest in him, he's not the type of player United go for, a 31-year-old free transfer, a low-key Brazilian international DM (memories of Kleberson!) and in a position which we've got full to the brim, to the extent that some would even reject Miguel Veloso

If Louis Saha is out for the season, I'm sure that he has played his last game for us. Although SAF said last night that he's only out for a couple of games. So we'll see.

If he is injured long term, I think we will have to buy a striker. Huntelaar appears to be a RvN type of player (I have never seen him play btw, but his goal ratio appears to show that he is) and I'm not sure that we need that type of striker. A goal poacher. A similar player to Saha would be a better option. And Berbatov seems to be available, so he would be a great addition.

Just one point.

We better never sell Ronaldo. Even for £100m.

i was thinking about this yesterday, and wanted to bring it up in this forum to hear thoughts: which of the young players on the squad right now will play for united for the rest of their careers (a la giggs)? which players will never want away and will never be sold... and will become united legends.

rooney is the only one that has a chance to stay at united for life i think... ronaldo will eventually leave (when he's like 29-30), anderson/nani/tevez will probably eventually leave for spain... any thoughts?

older guys like rio, hargreaves, vidic... i think they will be at united for life as well.

VDS, Foster, Gaz, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Giggsy, Scholesy, Hargreaves, Rooney.

Unfortunately I agree that the likes of Nani, Anderson and particularly Ronaldo will all leave some time in the future. To Spanish clubs.

Some compare him to Ruud yes, but some compare him to Ibrahimovic - from what I've seen of him, Huntelaar is quicker and more flamboyant than Ruud was here. He'd give that option, and as a player that could be content to rotate, he could be a very good option, imo. The pace was what had Fergie favour Saha over Ruud, but with all these injuries, it's expected that Saha won't have that same level of pace, and what we have seen of him this season supports that.

Huntelaar's actually quite a strange one. Everyone who sees him play compares him to someone diffeent - some to Ruud, some to Zlatan, I know someone who compares him to Tevez. I personally think he's a bit like a young Shevchenko. The technique is similar, and the way he's always there wanting to take free-kicks rings that bell. If we were able to get him in January, for £12m, then that's a bargain up against the others, even if he isn't the Berba-level.

I'd say Rooney and Hargreaves would, but I'd speculate Ferdinand or Vidic could be lured away at some point. Ronaldo is almost certain to pack up for Spain when he's around 29, and Tevez has already said he'll head off back to Boca when he's 28. The holy trinity won't stay together forever unfortunately

Nani, I'm no sure about. He may or he may not, I don't think we've heard enough out of him to judge on it yet. And Anderson? Well, as sure as I am that there won't be anyone better at his trade in a few years time, I think his international colleagues have proved that "Brazilian flu" could be a danger to his career long term. As hard to believe as it is now, he might be less a player than he is now by the time he's only 28. But that's still the same squad together for a good few years.

Evra is one I could definately see doing that though.

even the famous fergie's fledglings didnt last and among them only 2/3 stayed and from the fergie's early years only giggs remained.so its the same for our young players.it will bee only 2/3 that will finish at united till the end.

so of course our current side wont stick for ever but it will be long enough

U say Tevez wants to move back to Boca at 28, but in reality, will Boca be able to afford Tevez when if everything goes to plan he'll be in his prime??

I think for pretty much everyone it'll be a case of how much they deteriorate as they age. Our team atm is full of pace, none of the early 90s graduates were particularly blessed with pace bar Giggs, so it hasn't affected them so much, but when u think about the current team...

So I think for the mostpart, the players will stay at United for the vast majority of their best years in the game, and might leave in their 30s if they get replaced and become bit-part players...

On today's rumours, Huntelaar came up again, apparently we had scouts at Ajax's last game.

We're also reportedly interested in Micah Richards along with a jillion other clubs cos he might be asking too much in terms of wages from Man City.

Birmingham still want Fletcher.

And Brown still wants to stay at United according to the tabloids...
