If the Glazers are planning on selling - then don't plan on United doing any business whatsoever until that situation is resolved ... and just when you thought United might have a drama-free summer. Seriously - it's worse than a soap opera ...

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs is wanted by Tottenham manager Martin Jol to inject some experience into his side. (Sunday Mirror)

Spurs to trump Man Utd second time for Nani
tribalfooball.com - May 26, 2007

Tottenham are planning to beat Manchester United a second time for a top European transfer target.

Spurs have already beaten United to the signature of Southampton left-back Gareth Bale, and have made an enquiry to Sporting Lisbon for Nani.

Nani, 20, is desperate to follow fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo to the Premiership and admitted: "I believe I would progress as a player in England."

United have the midfielder on their summer hit-list - but Spurs have stolen a march by setting up a meeting in Portugal with Sporting bigwigs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Judging from what some Portuguese posters say about him he sounds like a Zokora-esque player imo, linked with the top clubs, but in the end moves to Spurs which is his level.

Man Utd in Barcelona talks for unsettled Eto'o
tribalfooball.com - May 26, 2007

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to bid for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

The Daily Mail says talks have been held between Manchester United and the Spanish giants amid persistent rumours of a rift between the Cameroon international and Barca's Brazilian pin-up, Ronaldinho.

Last week Eto'o infuriated the local media, upset his team-mates and exasperated club officials by saying he would consider moving to rivals Real Madrid and by railing against malign forces at the Nou Camp.

Eto'o said: "The person in the squad with whom I have most affinity these days is the kit man.

"We really need to root out the muck-rakers in our dressing room.

"From day one they have wanted to make it Ronaldinho against Eto'o. We have to get rid of the people that throw s**t around the dressing room. And he added pointedly: "If one day I'm a problem for Barcelona, I will leave."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If only..... we can all hope I guess

The Ryan Giggs one is just hysterical.

As far as Nani goes, the big things United have in their favor are Ronaldo & Quieroz - who could bring some influence to bear on his decision

And as far as Eto'o - time will tell ...

Well Bale's to be forgetton now, as is Nani, while Hargreaves has signed/is on the verge of singing. So the only unresolved name left on that list is Torres, which I could actually see happening - Spain's tabloids never seem to shut up about Torres-->ManUtd, and though they're not the most reliable papers on earth, that much spnning has to come from something, and he is a good, internationally and domestically established player. Then again, the whole, papers preaching, United uninterested thing could be on again, so make what you will of it.

It looks like Eto'o is heading to Liverpool.

Berbatov is a better buy.

I would have said so to, but Fergie's call for pace is what lead speculation to turn fromm him to the likes of Eto'o, Torres and even Owen. He, although deceptively quick, he doen't have the kind of pace that can stretch, split and scythe through defences - it's a pity we look likely to miss out on his hold-up play and intellegence, but with the pace is what we seem to be looking for, consideing Saha is actually the only forward we have capable of that, and injury steals him away too often, we all know that.

We have enough pace in our team.

Evra, Ronaldo, Rooney and even Giggsy are flying machines.

Berbatov would be ideal to play with that ^^^^ lot.

So you'd think, but the idea flying around is that we're looking for a pacey centre-forward in order to help our European challenge (although tbh, target men and work-horses tend to be of more use alone up front, think Drogba, Crouch and Inzaghi, all very effective in CL). A pacey striker could pull and plug our opps. defence, giving Rooney, Ronaldo and Giggs more space to play. Berbo's the type of player more inclined to work under clostrophobic pressure - it's one of his best traits, helps the team, assissts him in the box, etc. But the idea is that that would mean less space for our roamers in behind to play.

I disagree with the whole pace thing. It's movement that makes your team special.

Look at Rommedahl, all the pace in the world but doesn't know what to do with it.

That's why he's at Charlton. I'd prefer movement up front - it's more versatile and is a bigger help against defensive teams then pace is, but it's Ferguson's comments that are bringing the up the names of the pacey forwards. If it were me, I'd be after Berbo right now, but the deal looks like pace now, so you have to look at those possibilliies deeply

It's a valid point, but it's hardly as if Eto'o's movement is bad or even average, he's the complete modern striker imo.

If we got Eto'o or Berbatov I'd consider it to be a successful summer, I really think either would do wonders at United, they'd affect the team differently but with a similar overall outcome. Eto'o plays down the middle but makes runs into the channels and brings other players into play as well.

Berbatov stays more central and is probably more competent in the air and bringing people into play but is perhaps slightly less prolific. Either way, they're both fantastic players.

Eto'o is better. Always seems to score.

Shame he's a prick though.

Everyone always bashes him but I think it's more him being arrogant (or self-confident) especially in front of the media.

He can't be that bad after the way he's handled some of the racist abuse he's got and after the massive donations he's made to charity back in Cameroon...
