One thing you are all forgetting is who picks the team and all season I have been saying you could not pick a united team because fergie never plays the same team twice, surly you play your strongest team first and get the game won before you make substitutes and I know you are going to say he was saving them for Tuesday but hay wake up we should have won that game yesterday to give us more confidence for Tuesday

People have been saying that for a while. Giggs had a good spell as soon as he wanted to get a new deal. I couldn't belive how much he moaned to the ref yesterday for kicking a crystal palace player then crying because he moved his leg towards him on the ground.

What I find interesing is that we have taken more points off the teams in the top half then anyone else but we have taken 4 less points off bottom half teamsthan everrton. This shows that our real problem is fergie changing the team too much in games we should win (and therefore when he rest key players).

It is a brilliant find of stats this. Well done.

MUFC, I have always thought this. I can see why players are brought on for 3 minutes at the end of a winnign situation to wind the clock down, etc...but bringing someone off (resting) not tactical change with 40 / 30 / 20 mins left, is pointless. The rest time usually of three days should be enough to recover in time for the next game.

People always quote the days before sub's, I wasn't around then, but have read numerous articles about it, and personally I think it is currently hindering the Manchester United team, squad rotoation I mean. Recently we had a thread about 7 subs, in the EPL, this bollox would make it even worse for us.

Salf about cold or rusty systems and players, you are again spot on.

You only have to look at our dominant teams a quarter of a century ago; one sub a game, 13-16 man squads playing 60+ games on much heavier pitches... back then our teams didn't struggle against the multi-subs, less played foreigners. The slightly above average (by division one standards) Manchester United under Big Ron comfortably matched teams fielding the biggest names in the game like Platini, Boniek, Maradonna and Schuster and the top sides lifted the European Cup with regularity.

The great myth about to much football and needing a break is just a good way of avoiding awkward questions. If the likes of Sven and Ferguson didn't perpetuate this myth then people would begin to notice how crap they are. What has constantly amazed me is the way everyone raves about the form of Henry and the improvement of Lampard since the turn of the decade, but fail to note that these two players had spent virtually every minute on the field for their teams... that throws something of a spanner into the works of the "too many games" lobby.

All that has changed in 25 years is the domestic player is now on a stellar wage rather than being just a high earner. They are a bunch of overpampered playboys who don't want to actually put in the required work to justify their wage.
