Bojinov nets Fiorentina faith Wednesday 20 June, 2007

Valeri Bojinov’s agent has insisted that the striker wants to stay at Fiorentina despite rumours linking him to Napoli.

The Viola youngster spent last term on loan at Juventus, but the Old Lady opted not to sign him outright in the summer after the Bulgarian failed to convince the club of his ability.

Reports in the Italian Press recently claimed that the 21-year-old is a target for newly promoted Napoli, but Gerry Palomba has rubbished claims of contact with the Partenopei.

“I have read about Napoli’s interest in the papers, but we have not spoken with any club official,” said the representative to violanews.com.

“We have met instead with Coach Cesare Prandelli and we are satisfied. Valeri seems tuned into the tactician’s plans and they reached an immediate understanding.

“Fiorentina also offered us a renewal as Valeri is considered an important player and we will be proud if the club choose to extend his contract.

“I asked [sporting director] Pantaleo Corvino to confirm their intention – we are at their disposal.”

Bojinov, who had stated earlier this year that Napoli could represent an excellent alternative for him, is eager to make up for his disappointing campaign in Turin.

“Our priority is not the money, we are interested in the technical project involving the player and we are in full agreement with Coach Prandelli,” added Palomba.

“The lad wants to find stability and is very motivated, he wants to pick up from where he left off.”

The international joined the Viola in January 2005 for £11m after scoring 11 goals in 20 League games for Lecce in the previous four months before he signed.

Fiorentina have told Valeri Bojinov to sign a new contract in Tuscany or face being sold to another club this summer.

The Bulgarian wants to prove himself at the Stadio Franchi after an unsuccessful spell on loan at Juventus last term, but it seems that a contract row may see that desire disappear.

The club want to tie him down to a longer agreement as soon as possible seeing as he would have Bosman status next summer, but the youngster seems in no rush to commit.

“Fiorentina consider his contract renewal as a priority, but it is only secondary for us right now,” agent Gerry Palomba told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I thank the club for the offer which they have made, but we are in no position to accept it at this stage.

“I can confirm that the player wants to remain because he wants to be a part of the Viola project and is in perfect harmony with Coach Cesare Prandelli.

“As a result, I told Fiorentina that we can discuss the contract issue at a later date seeing as it runs until 2008.

“However, [sporting director Pantaleo] Corvino said no. He told us that we either sign or he’ll sell the player.

“I’m now having doubts over whether Fiorentina really believe in the player or if they want to just sell him.”

Bojinov, who joined the Viola from Lecce in January 2005 for £11m, is understood to be wanted by the likes of Torino and Napoli.

Parma will turn their attention to Fiorentina’s Valeri Bojinov if the club fail to net Manchester United starlet Giuseppe Rossi.

The Gialloblu are understood to have tabled a £6m bid to United, for the player they signed on a six-month loan in January, in an attempt to boost their strike force.

However, should they fail to snap up the Under-21 international then they already have an alternative target lined up in the shape of the Bulgarian.

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has admitted that the striker is on the verge of being sold after he turned down the offer of a new contract.

Bojinov is a highly-rated attacker even if he has lost his way since initially joining the Viola in January 2005 for £11m from Lecce.

He spent last season on loan at Juventus in Serie B, but failed to convince the Turin giants to take up their option to sign him outright this summer.

Bojinov, who is equipped with a sweet left foot, is also understood to be a possible target for Torino and Napoli.

Parma have already completed a piece of transfer business with the Tuscan side this summer after signing Reginaldo from them.
