Kyle Martino
How good is he? IMO he's very good with few faults. Kyle is a great creator, keeps control of the game and distributes extremely well. Actually he reminds me very much of Chelsea's Joe Cole. Kyle biggest fault is that he needs to toughen up a little and add some weight so he can stay on the ball but this midfielder has a bright future.

Kyle Martino
he looks different without all that hair
Kyle Martino's Crew cut
Kyle gets wins on the soccer field and golf course
By Kyle Martino / Columbus Crew midfielder
Crew midfielder Kyle Martino was the 2002 MLS Rookie of the Year and has also played for the U.S. men's national team. Each week during the 2004 MLS season, Kyle will detail the week past, giving insight into the life of a professional soccer player.
It felt great to get the first win. We knew that it was coming, and that it was just a matter of time. We just needed to really come together as a team. To get the first win and to see the fans out in the rain and really supporting us even though we haven't had the greatest start was definitely a major positive.
Going into the game, we knew that the Revolution played a 4-4-2 and our 3-5-2 would really do its best - and we would do the most damage - on the flanks against them. The coaching staff addressed that in training during the week, and we made sure that we utilized that as much as possible. In the first half, when they were playing a 4-4-2, we moved the ball around really well and Frankie Hejduk must have had 15 crosses in the first half.
Of course, in the second half, New England switched to a 3-5-2, and we started to realize it was going to be harder to knock the ball around in the middle and spray the ball around as easily as we did in the first half. What needed to happen was that we just needed to move the ball a little bit faster to the forwards and let them hold it. I think the adjustment in the second half was that the forwards did an amazing job holding the ball and taking some of the pressure off of the backs, because it was harder for them to find the midfielders with three guys running around in the middle.
Both of the goalkeepers had an amazing game. Right off the bat it looked like it was going to be one of those games when we just couldn't score because Matt Reis was making amazing saves. It definitely was a little frustrating not to come out right away and put away one of those chances. Luckily, Jon Busch turned around and did the same thing, making some saves on them to keep us in the game. It's good to talk about both goalkeepers doing it rather than one goalkeeper keeping his team in the game. We just made sure to capitalize on one of our chances.
We try all week trying to hit Buschy in the face during practice. It's actually kind of fun when we get to see him take one in the face during a game. He's fearless. He always gives 100 percent, so I know day in and day out, he'll take one in the face to win a game.
Of course, it was nice to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Crew Stadium with a win. Some of the people who helped us build the stadium - the Hunts and John Wagner - were there, and we got to thank them for building such an amazing home and we got out and thanked the fans.
After the game, a friend of ours was kind enough to order two limos, and we headed down to the brewery district and had a blast. We went down to Metro and had a good time there, and then some of us headed over to Gordon Biersch. We just tried to have a good time because instead of all the negatives we've had to think of after games, we finally had some positives.
Training has been going well this week. Wednesday we had a day off, and we got to go play some golf, and we had a little tournament. I'm happy to say that I, Ross Paule, Jake Traeger and Erick Scott were victorious today, and 3-under took the title. We were lucky we were playing a scramble because between neither Erick Scott nor I could hit the ball farther than we could throw it.
-- Kyle

He has a ton of potential, he's just never played up to it so far. He needs to improve a lot before he's ready to play for the national team (of course you were talking 4 years into the future).
