The rumour has been dragging on since the window opened... i'm sure if there was no way in this move happening, it would of been squashed sooner.

Premiership club Portsmouth are claiming that they are closing in on the loan signing of American striker Landon Donovan, while they are also looking at Hungarian Attila Tokoli.
The 21-year-old is currently playing with San Jose in MLS, loaned from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen on co-sharring agreement.
Pompey are now hoping that they can seal a deal to take Donovan to Fratton Park until the end of the season.
"A couple of other clubs in England are looking, but he wants to come here. Harry Redknapp likes him - he is a quality player," confirmed Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric to local paper The News.
'We have spoken already with Bayer Leverkusen about a loan until the end of the season."
MLS are yet to give the green light to such a move and could yet prevent Donovan from moving. MLS communications this evening aren't commenting on the report until they can clarify the sitaution.
One thing Pompey will have to consider is that Donovan has been named in the U.S.' Under-23 squad for their Olympic qualifying tournament in Mexico which will take place at the beginning of February and lasts for two weeks.

Portsmouth trying to obtain Donovan
The Associated Press
1/26/04 2:23 PM
PORTSMOUTH, England (AP) -- Portsmouth of England's Premier League has a deal to obtain Landon Donovan on a loan from Major League Soccer, but the agreement has become bogged down by FIFA's new transfer regulations.
Portsmouth owner Milan Mandaric said on Monday his team has reached agreements with the 21-year-old forward and with MLS and the German team Bayer Leverkusen, who share his rights.
FIFA last week said MLS can obtain players from foreign teams only from Jan. 1 until March 1, and from Aug. 15 until Sept. 15. If Donovan is loaned, under those rules he may not be able to return to MLS's San Jose Earthquakes until August.
"With Donovan, we have an agreement with the player, Leverkusen and the American club for a loan deal," Mandaric said. "But it's an unfortunate situation as we've run into problems with FIFA."
Donovan, who has 15 goals in 45 international appearances, helped the U.S. team reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup and San Jose win last year's MLS title.
"We have been in discussions with multiple clubs in the EPL and well as with US Soccer and MLS to arrange a loan deal with Landon through the end of the EPL season," said Donovan's agent Richard Motzkin. "At this point, we are trying to work through the new FIFA regulations to determine whether this is possible. We should have a resolution by the end of the week."
FIFA spokesman Andreas Herren said soccer's governing body could not respond until its legal department could be contacted Tuesday.

Fifa May Kill Donovan Loan 27/01/04
According to reports, Portsmouth have agreed with Bayer Leverkusen and MLS on an EPL stint for U.S. star Landon Donovan, but Fifa transfer rules could nix the move.
Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric, who is also interested in Anderlecht striker Ivica Mornar, isn’t ready to give up on acquiring the MLS Cup MVP.
"The player's anxious and has a big desire to come to Pompey,” he said. "But it's an unfortunate situation as we've run into problems with Fifa.”
”It's because of the different transfer windows for America and Europe,” explained Mandaric. "Landon would not be able to go back before the end of August and the American season starts before then."
