They announced during the Superdraft that LA sold 2500 season tickets after the Beckham announcement yesterday.

He shouldn't apologise for that.

Haha I know, even the crew on Good Morning America said that they would have to get used to "football". I just thought it was funny that he did apologize.

To the greater picture, I'm not at all convinced that Beckham will push football over the top in North America. I think that will come in due time, but they will always play second fiddle to the NFL, MLB and the NBA to a certain extent.
The main goal now for them is too get a major television contract with a network. Something that will be hard to do.

Well this summer they did get a new TV contract that will actually make them money a first for the MLS.
Jager your right about Beckham and the MLS/USA soccer know this as well but this is about speeding up process of getting soccer out there in the consciousness of the average american sports fan.
All this is a stepping stone like the '94 World Cup was and soccer here has been growing since. The better the league does the better it is for the acceptance and the better the players and bigger the names the faster this transformation of the average american sports fan to care and spend there money on soccer.
But getting Beckham is all about exposure and to kick start the revenue and to hopefully to get a trend of getting other big names so that they can continue to push this thing forward.
MLS got the has been to come to the league in the past and while Beckham is past his prime he's far from washed up and could've had some fine years playing in one of the elite leagues. But as I've been saying it's about pushing forward and this deal should open things up for the MLS in the next couple of years that will raise the salary cap and the ability to keep most of our talent here with the exception of the players that go to the elite leagues and so on to the point that the league can stand on it's own and no longer have a salary cap and that the single entity will be dissolved.

With Donovan getting his form and confidence back combined with Beckham and the way he's been playing...it makes for a scary combo. There's no reason the Galaxy shouldn't win the cup this year.

Thats HI- larious. He should know that most of the real fans call it football half of the time anyways. Its cool that he will try and fit in though. A lot of people who come here have to adapt to a new language and stuff like that and try to take in our culture. A lot of times english people feel they speak the language better than we do, and think americans are stupid, and wont change, but it looks like beckham has already tried to semi-americanize himself and hes not even here yet and hes already playing a positive role within the LA community

It would be nice, but do you think Donovan might feel threatened about beckhams arrival? Also do you think that beckhams arrival might be to late in the season to make a significant difference, or at least to late to win them the cup. Beckham is only one man, and if he and donovan struggle to gel right away it could be bad. They are going to have to put egos aside and really work unselfishly together to win matches.

Does anyone think it might be possible that beckham would naturalize himself to play for team USA? He would most likely be ridiculed for something like that, but i think he said he was finished playing for england, and if he wanted to end his career with a bang, that would be one way of doing so.

Might? Donovan already does. He stated to the media that he would rather stay with the Galaxy than play for thr USA in the tournaments this summer. And Donovan never says that. He didnt say it for the world cup last year, never said it for 2005 Gold Cup. He doesn't want to lose captaincy or any kind of ground for that matter to Beckham. Also it's tough to say about Beckham being too late really. I dont think he will honestly. There are 6 teams in the western conference and you have to be top 4 to go to the playoffs. They can still cling to that 4th spot atleast and once the playoffs get rolling it's a whole new ballgame and the cup is anyone's for the taking.
