I think his image rights makes up most of the money so thats understandable.
BBC SPORT | Football | The 275 million dollar man = I think that link explains it all and $275m he will get.

Not as much as u would think though. His name is known but not neccessarily his face to all the non-soccer fans. Look at Schumacher. He is arguably just as big in Europe, and he said he loves coming to the U.S because people dont recognize him as much. Racing is more a popular sport in the U.S than soccer too.
However, being in LA, his face will certainly get around to those who dont already know him. I can see him going Hollywood too.

excellent keeper on Cannon
and the ex USA international Alex Lalas as the club president
tomorrow will be MLS superdraft and I expect Los Angeles to be involved on some players movements

Ah so Beckham will offically join LA Galaxy on the 1st July as his contract expires on 30th.
Does MLS still show the games online as i dont think they show those games anywhere in the UK?

Wow, great new for american soccer.... i was at the park when my wife call me....
the 50 million/year is not even cloe to any prediction/news i read.
The MLS is on the big money and if this deal work out then a lot of more top of the line players will come...
Who's next... Ronaldo, now that he just realize that Real just don't want him...

Well you never know right? I mean Pele once played in the United States but nothing ever really started and he was one of only a few international stars to play here. I mean I hope they do come, it would be great for the league and very benefitial to some of the future players but I for one wont be expecting much in terms of more international stars playing. Also, I heard that Ronaldo is considering joining a Saudi Arabian team. The one that Jared Borghetti was on.

This is going to be interesting in a train wreck type way. I can't wait to watch Posh try to become a player in Hollywood; it will be more amusing than her rap career.
I am afraid that there is a real chance that this is going to turn into a farce football-wise.
I would be not at all surprised if he is going to expect to be installed in the center of the LA midfield with only slight less pomp than that of a Napoleonic coronation, there to hit said quarterback passes, not run too much and of course take free kicks.
Perhaps worse for the credibility of the league, I wouldn't be surprised if the refs are told to let him do just that and not to allow those mean, hungry regular-wage players who are making less in a year than he does in a day take the ball off him.
The question is whether this is going to be closer to Globetrotters or Cosmos, and my current bet is on the former, especially given the fact that he won't be joining the team straight away.
The people who are buying tickets now, and the people who AEG are targeting, are not "soccer consumers", they are "people are going to turn up to watch some handsome [and famous] guy plodding around"
As to whether it will work, the situation is different now.
The targets are smaller; the grounds are one-half to one-quarter of the size of the ones the NASL was trying to fill (actually, Becks' new home holds about a fifth of the number of the people Cruyff's and Best's did when they were playing for the Aztecs); I am sure that they are so deluded to be thinking of a national network TV contract, and soccer is more established as a niche sport than it was 30 years ago.
So it could work on some level, but they will never get that guy of money back from the football-related activities alone. That said, I am still convinced that they aren't paying that kind of money for the football-related activities alone.
I would pay good money to see the Galaxy play a "friendly" against Diego Simeone's Estudiantes.

I don't buy the $250m at all, he will get a ton but it won't be this much unless the MLS has 100% of his image rights. The MLS is a Adidas league and I'm sure some of that money is going to come from them and that he will more or less is going to be the spokesman/centerpiece etc. for MLS.
In the end I think this is a good deal as it will help US soccer take some more steps foward into the average american sports fans mind.
This deal is about exposure, to get the attion of the american people and soccer players around the world that the US is starting to take soccer serious and as the MLS gets more excepted by the average american sports fan which in turn will make them more money that they will spend to make the league one of the best.

He's not getting paid $250m by the MLS/Galaxy. His salary is $10m per season, so it's really a 5 year $50m deal. The $250m number is what he will make with all his deals plus his salary over the 5 years he's in the MLS it's not what he's getting paid, these reports that MLS/Galaxy are paying him $250 are wrong.
