CL: Liverpool v Inter (19.02)
Champions League is the last opportunity to win something this season and I have no believe they will because this season Liverpool haven't show much class. But at least Torres will play this match, hopefully instead of Kuyt.

I'm very calm before this match as I have some mixed feelings. I think it's important that Liverpool gets a new manager before next season and they need help from Inter to make it happen...

Scoring a deflected goal doesn't make Kuyt any good. He's rubbish.
I really didn't expect this result and am actually slightly shocked by the scoreline.
I just wonder though how much Matrix's sending off will end up affecting this tie. Very harsh decision that.

Just saw the highlights of this game. Tbh the ref over reacted with both challenges. Changed the game.

Materazzi sending off was complete non sense. It had nothing to do with Pool, but it completely changed the game.
It is completely heart breaking to be in such a hole because of the official. It ruined us, as after we absorbed the typical english onslaught, we started to settle down, then BANG, the idiot sends off our leader, and that is the game. We hold out valiantly for entire game almost, and they finally get to us.
Losing Cordoba didn't help at all. Losing both starting CBs, who can recover from that?????
Gifted victory and advantage.....and I think we are in a lot of trouble now.
But what I've seen of Liverpool, they will not go much further than this round I feel. They had Inter on the ropes, and needed luck, favourable calls ...to beat us.
And before I get slammed, I can't even comment on our play, as playing with ten men really screws up the game plan. Other than to say that maybe Ibra should of been subbed. But what do I know?
Horrific call and horrific game from a neutral standpoint. Thanks UEFA for fucking us up yet again.

No the red card wasn't harsh! It was a joke! Neither one was a yellow card and both were only marginal fouls if that.
I don't know if the ref was just influenced by croud or what but definetely wasn't worthy of a card.
Apart from that Inter's tactics almost paid off. It was obvious from the start that Inter wanted to take a draw back home with them. Even before the sending off the hardly sent more than 2 players forward when they had the ball. So even if the goals came late it was definetely a deserved win for Liverpool and a 2 goal lead is very nice to take to Italy.
I just hope everything stays calm in Italy...I heard a Madrid fan was stabbed in Rome before the match.

The yellows were harsh, but what goes around comes around. Now Inter know how Catania, Empoli, Siena, Parma and many others feel. Also, it could have been 1-0 much earlier in the half if Vieira's handball was called.

Okay good.
Inter got theres now.
How about the two games when we were reduced to ten men against Udinese? Or against you lot in the CL? I can go on and on. Two wrongs doesn't make a right.
But this is not the right thread to talk about this shit.

Good result for Liverpool. They should take advantage of this lead.

Pretty perfect result. One goal in the San Siro and they will need four to go through, and i dont see a Benitez side conceding four in Europe!
Just sifting through the game now, Materazzi red card was an awful decision. First yellow was just an accidental clip, never a booking, and the second was barely a yellow, a bit of a tug but Torres made it look worse than it was. For once Materazzi's angelic look was not out of place!
On us, I thought we played pretty well, even 11 v 11. Mascherano & Lucas were superb i thought, controlled the midfield well, Cambiasso was very quiet, as was Vieira when he came on. Down the right was where we got the most joy it seemed, Finnan had a good productive game (though some of his crossing was wayward), and linked up well with Gerrard & Babel at times, and then Pennant when he came on. Babel had a useful game, always willing to run at full backs and not shy of having a pop, but he faded in the second half, Torres was in and out of the game but was unlucky on a couple of occasions not to have a goal, and Gerrard seemed to get stronger as the game went on, which was good to see. Kuyt did some good things, but also some absolutely atrocious things, i was screaming for him to come off instead of the excellent Lucas. Although cant complain as he got the goal, albeit with a deflection it seems.
Thought we looked a whole lot more dangerous when Crouch was introduced, Inter's centre halves were pretty tiny and it made sense to have the big man up against them (much like against Chelsea at Anfield last season), he won some flick ons and caused a nuisance, might have had a goal himself too.
Great result. Shame it will be marred by the stupid red card but hey, its dog eat dog in the Champions League, would have been nice to beat Inter at full strength (btw i thought the keeper and Chivu were excellent), but 2-0 will do me. should be a good second leg with the Italians having to go all out, and us knowing a goal would effectively kill the tie! cant wait.

Congrats to Liverpool and your team. However I don't want to take anything away, but today you received huge help. My club was not able to play its game. I felt just before that second card to Materazzi, Inter were starting to find room, as you were tiring. It was plain as day.
I really accepted the 1 goal lose, but then the second goal, and the egomaniac Pool players, really upset me and the rest of the group I was with.
Its not over, and if THERE is karma, you will get yours in the next leg or after that. Then I hope they have a tight shot of Gerrard looking at the sky as if he just won the world cup.

Liverpool won this thanks to Materazzi. That lead to Liverpool taking more risk.
