Xabi Alonso

I haven't been able to watch many Liverpool matches this year but I've noticed that Alonso has not been playing too often. It seems that Mascherano has been in his place. Has Alonso lost his first team spot or is he just slightly injured?

He has been recovering from breaking his metatarsal twice so he has been missing since October effectively. Made his comeback against Chelsea in the Carling Cup last week, and started against Derby on Boxing Day. Im sure he will get more games over the coming weeks, but the form of Mascherano & Gerrard means he wont be first choice...and rightly so.
