Atletico Madrid confident snapping up Liverpool's Garcia

Quote:
Atletico Madrid are chasing Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia.

Independent of negotiations between the two clubs over Atletico captain Fernando Torres, the Spanish Liga outfit have asked Liverpool to name their price for Garcia.

Marca says Atletico chiefs are convinced that Garcia is homesick for Spain and keen to return home this summer.

Milan has been after him for a long time and I think Atletico still owes Milan tons of money. Strange that we haven't heard a Torres to Milan rumour this season....

Not sure if he'll do well outside Spain. Regardless if its EPL or Serie A....

That's because Milan have no interest in Torres.

spanner in the works?hope so!

Atletico Madrid are facing a fans' revolt over the possible sale of striker Fernando Torres to Liverpool.

Talks between the two clubs over a potential £25million move for the Spanish international have taken place between officials.

But the Madrid club are facing a backlash from their own supporters, unhappy at the prospect of their idol being sold to the Champions League finalists.

Atletico fans have staged a protest in a Madrid square against the sale of the 23-year-old, a youth product of the club who has constantly professed his love for the team he has supported since childhood.

That pressure is likely to delay any deal at least until the player returns from holiday on July 10.

And Atletico will now be even more determined to extract every last penny from Liverpool, so that they can sell the deal to their fans as having got best possible financial outcome.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has insisted no official bid has been made by Liverpool and the Merseysiders may now have to wait for Torres to return to pre-season training in the hope he will force the issue then by declaring that he wants to move to Anfield.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's own agent is believed to be attempting to broker the deal, with the Anfield chief needing to produce some genuine movement in his transfer deals before the team return to training at the beginning of July, ahead of their first pre-season friendly at Wrexham on July 7.

Officials also say they are unaware of any clause in Torres' contract entitling the player to 10% of any transfer fee, despite reports to the contrary.

As well as Torres, it is believed that Benitez's has other targets include PSV striker Arouna Kone, Ajax's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Diego Milito at Real Zaragoza.

Liverpool's first group of players report back to Melwood on Thursday for pre-season training.

Missing, however, will be Emiliano Insua and new signing Lucas Leiva, who take part in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup which opens in Canada this weekend.

Insua is in the Argentina squad, while summer signing Leiva is an integral member of Brazil's team. The 24-nation tournament runs from Saturday until July 22.

Argentina are defending their crown and kick-off their campaign on Saturday against the Czech Republic in Ottawa. Brazil's tournament starts five hours earlier against Poland in Montreal.

What can you expect?Of course they will get upset when Torres leaves but who can stop him?Torres has higher ambitions than the club so it must be the right time for him to leave.Henry went to Barca and of course the gunners fans didn't like it.You can never keep a player forever.

Reds will wait for Torres

Quote:
Liverpool are prepared to play a waiting game for Fernando Torres, as Atletico Madrid dig their heels in over their captain and talisman.

The Spaniards are prepared to fight tooth and nail to hang on to the 23-year-old, after more than 350 supporters protested in a city square yesterday about his possible sale.

Talks have taken place between the Reds and Madrid officials, but with the player now on holiday until July 10, Liverpool are prepared to wait until Torres returns to pre-season training and can force the issue himself.

Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has told Liverpool he can't stop them buying Fernando Torres.

"All players have a buyout clause and if they meet it then there's nothing we can do," said Cerezo.

But that clause is set at £27m - a fee Liverpool believe is over-priced.

Reds officials also say they are unaware of any clause entitling the player to 10 per cent of the transfer fee, as reports today claimed.

As revealed in the Echo, as well as Torres Rafa Benitez has other targets in mind - among them PSV striker Arouna Kone, Ajax's Klaas Huntelaar and Diego Milito at Real Zaragoza.

I think Torres will only leave for Liverpool.

After Liverpool stated their interest in the player, Torres laid pressure on the Athletico board immediately and said that he wants to leave the club.

Garcia open to Torres swap

Quote:
Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia has hinted he would be interested in a possible swap deal with Fernando Torres.

The Reds are stepping up their interest in Atletico Madrid ace Torres as they look to bring in a high-profile signing.

Atletico have indicated that they could be prepared to do a deal for fans favourite Torres with the club lining up a bid for Diego Forlan as a possible replacement.

Torres is believed to be considering his future at Vicente Calderon after another disappointing season last term.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is a big fan of Torres and sees him as a key addition to his squad as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

Liverpool are hoping to persuade Atletico to do business by offering Garcia in part exchange.

Garcia, who missed the most of last season through injury, admits he would be interested in a move to Atletico.

"Liverpool are in my thoughts at the moment, but one day I would like to come back, and not to Barcelona, but to Atletico Madrid, who are always in my thoughts," Garcia told Spanish television.

Post Torres to Liverpool

If this goes down, how big of an impact will Torres have in the EPL?
