Hicks urges Liverpool fans to be patient over new signings
Quote:
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has urged fans to be patient as they seek to boost Rafa Benitez's squad this summer.
He said: "I would say to fans 'just be patient', because we're talking to Rafa often.
"Rick Parry is in charge of getting the contracts negotiated and I think the fans will like the outcome. Maybe we'll hear something in the next week."

HICKS PROMISES BIG MONEY TRANSFERS
Quote:
NEW Liverpool owner Tom Hicks today told Liverpool fans to expect big-money transfers next week as the club prepares to mount a serious challenge for the Barclays Premiership.
Hicks, speaking after skipper Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher signed new contracts, vowed to "give Manchester United a run for their money" next season.
But despite pledging money for new signings, the American co-owner demanded boss Rafael Benitez produce a more “consistent” side next term.
Hicks insisted that results must improve to compete with Chelsea and Manchester United.
He said: “Our goal is to play good football all season next time out. In the Premiership, you have to be so consistent.
“We lost far too many games on the road, particularly to lesser teams.

Glazer's public silence since taking over has really annoyed me...but it's better than having this rentaquote plonker in charge. Fuck me, he nevers shuts up does he?
At least we know where we stand. Malcolm knows we hate him, and he hates us too. He's on the keep and we all know that. This clown is mincing around in personalised cowboy boots and pretending he has the first fucking clue about football or Liverpool FC.
Fucking embarrasing, to be honest lads.

FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER, variously described and derided as 'brave rebels', 'irrelevant outsiders' and 'a right bunch of dicks'. Living testament to that peculiarly Mancunian talent for gazing at the world in all it's wonder, thinking for a minute, and then muttering "Nah that's bollocks. This is how we'll do it..."

Maybe...
But just as you don't really give a damn if Glazer says nothing as long as he allows transfers of new players we won't give a damn what Hicks says as long as he allows the funding of some quality improvements...

yeah it isnt nice you're right. it was sickening watching him parade the shitty runners up medals the players "earnt" in Athens round like they'd won the big prize, and horrible to hear him coming out without bollocks like "Snoogy Doogy" and see him flashing notes around on television, but what can you do? as long as he puts up some dough this summer to strengthen the squad, and oversees the new stadium development, what have we got to complain about other than them acting a bit soft?

Gillett: Rafa Happy With Liverpool Spending Plans
Quote:
Gillett: Rafa Happy With Liverpool Spending Plans Rafael Benitez's outburst following Liverpool's defeat in the Champions League final lasy month appeared to reveal the Spanish tactician's frustration with the Reds' transfer policy. But one of the club's American co-owners, George Gillett, has stressed there is no problem with Benitez regarding the amount of funds available for bringing in new players.
Gillett: Rafa Happy With Liverpool Spending Plans

But while rumours persist that Liverpool have a huge kitty at Rafa's disposal, Gillett has warned that the Reds will not be "spending like a drunken sailor" this summer.
Superstars like Samuel Eto'o and David Villa have been identified in the media as potential targets for Liverpool, but it is now being suggested that the Merseyiders need to pursue less extravagantly-priced players because of financial constraints.
That in turn has fuelled rumours that ex-Valencia coach Benitez is disillusioned with the new American regime at Anfield of Gillett and fellow-tycoon Tom Hicks.
However, Gillett has dismissed any notion of a rift between owners and manager.
"I read that Rafa is throwing hand-grenades at us and making demands, that there's a tension or disagreement between him and the Gillett and Hicks families," Gillett told The Times.
"Nothing could be farther from the truth.
"As far back as February, Rafa laid out a programme for us.
"Each one of our sports businesses has a core concept. You can't just flop around looking at opportunities here and there, go left, go right. It has to be part of an integrated plan.
"We have one at Liverpool, one we understand 100%, believe in and support. The plan involves us spending money, but it will be part of a plan, not just spending like a drunken sailor."

Christ, you've changed your tune. Losing a final just too much for you to take?
Whilst giving up on three to pursue one was a dickheadish thing to do, it almost yielded another remarkable success. Considering what a shower of shit Liverpool's squad is, I think Rafa can come away from the season thinking he had relative success.
When he's actually had significant money to spend he's not used it too badly.

Reds Hungary for young talents
Quote:
Skysports.com can reveal that Liverpool have agreed a mutual co-operation with Hungarian club MTK Hungaria.
The Reds recently signed youngsters Andras Simon and Krisztian Nemeth (pictured) from the Budapest-based side, and a more formal association between the two clubs has now been announced.
As part of the agreement Liverpool will financially support MTK's Karoly Sandor academy, which produced both Simon and Nemeth, as well as assisting in the education of its young scholars.
Liverpool will be able to cherry-pick the best talents from MTK's academy, whilst The Reds may also send their own youth players and reserves to play in Hungary if they fail to make the grade at Anfield.
Revealing the co-operation in Agard on Tuesday, MTK general director Laszlo Domonyai hailed the link-up with Liverpool as a historic moment for Hungarian football.
"This is a milestone not only for MTK but for the whole of Hungarian football because Hungarian talents will get such an opportunity from this agreement that they could only dream about before in an academy like Agard's," Domonyai told skysports.com.
MTk also revealed that many European clubs were keen on linking up with the Hungarian side, but the vision of Reds boss Rafa Benitiez helped to sway the deal in Liverpool's favour.
Academy director Zsolt Tamasi added: "I can't express in words what an honour it is for us that Rafael Benitez and his team found us worthy for this co-operation.
"I think from now on all the members of the academy can be more proud of themselves."
The first fruit of the agreement will see MTK's young goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi spend 10 days at Liverpool's Melwood training ground, starting on 4th July.
