A prolific goalscorer, he was the first to score 100 league goals in both the English and Scottish leagues. He was recently crowned the 'Player Who Shook The Kop' the most in its history, ahead of Steven Gerrard (2nd), Ian Rush (3rd), Billy Liddell (6th), Kevin Keegan (7th) and Emlyn Hughes (10th).
More recently, Dalglish has also enjoyed success as a club manager: he is one of only three people to have won the English League Championship as a manager with two different clubs. He was also the first man to win 100 caps for Scotland and won a total of 102 caps. With 30 goals, he holds the scoring record for his country jointly with Denis Law.

John Toshack started his footballing career with Cardiff City F.C., signing for them as a 16 year old. After four years at Cardiff City, he was signed by Bill Shankly for Liverpool F.C. on the 11 November 1970, already a full international, Shankly paid £110,000 for the giant striker. 'Tosh' made his debut 3 days later on the 14th in the goalless league draw with Coventry City at Anfield. His first goal came a week later on the 21st in a remarkable Merseyside derby at Anfield. With the game 0-0 at half-time Everton thundered into a 2-0 lead just after the start of the second half. 69 minutes in Steve Heighway pulled a goal back, this seemed to spring the Reds into life, Toshack's goal in the 76th minute completely turned the game around, then when Chris Lawler prodded home the 84th minute winner the fans almost lifted the roof off the Kop. Toshack's goal instantly made him a hit amongst the Anfield faithful, which was a good thing as they had initially voiced their concerns in paying so much for the Welshman.
In 1971 a little known player by the name of Kevin Keegan joined the Reds from Scunthorpe United and the rest, as they say, is history. Toshack and Keegan struck up an almost telepathic partnership with 'Tosh' winning everything in the air and Keegan finishing the knock downs. They were a delight for commentators as their names rolled off the tongue easily, one famous piece of commentary by David Coleman went "Toshack, Keegan, one nil!" Such was their fame, the football magazine Shoot likened them to the comic book crimebusters Batman and Robin even taking a photograph of the pair dressed in the dynamic duo's costumes! By the time Keegan left for German side Hamburg SV he had scored exactly 100 goals with a great percentage of them being set up by Toshack.
During his time with Liverpool Toshack scored 96 goals, he was part of the team that won the Football League Championship in 1973, 1976 and 1977, the FA Cup in 1974, and the UEFA Cup in 1973 and 1976. He played for the Welsh national football team at schoolboy, under-23 and full international level earning 40 caps and scoring 12 goals, includig a hat trick against Scotland in the 1979 British Home Championship. However, his playing career was blighted by injuries and he was transferred to Swansea City A.F.C. as player-manager in 1978' (he already passed his coaching badge at the age of 18'), where he succeeded Harry Griffiths.

More stuff about John Toshack
The lanky striker formed with Kevin Keegan one of the great attack partnerships of Liverpool history, a 'double act' that succeeded the bountiful 1960's combination of Roger Hunt and Ian St John.
After becoming, at 16, the youngest player ever to appear in a League game for Cardiff City the Wales international was signed by Bill Shankly for £110,000 in November 1970 and took a while to establish himself as a first team regular.
But after Keegan's arrival the following year the pair dovetailed into a menacing 'Little and Large' strike force with 6ft 1in Toshack a perfect foil for his smaller colleague. They scored and created goals for each other with a seemingly telepathic understanding, Toshack's great aerial power a crucial factor as they helped capture domestic and European prizes.
Toshack, who also penned poetry, became Swansea player boss in 1978 after scoring 96 Liverpool goals. He led the Welsh club from the Fourth to the old First Division in successive seasons and was awarded an OBE. His managerial talents have taken him around Europe, including a brief spell in charge of Wales and two stints at Real Madrid.

More stuff about Kevin Keegan
Bill Shankly's £35,000 swoop for Keegan from Scunthorpe in May 1971 proved one of the shrewdest transfer moves ever. He was signed as a midfielder and potential replacement for long-serving Ian Callaghan. But Keegan's sparkling display up front in a pre-season practice match persuaded Shankly to plunge him into his debut alongside John Toshack in attack at the start of the 1971-72 season.
Keegan scored after just 12 minutes, Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 and another epoch in Anfield history had begun. The confident recruit, born in Armthorpe near Doncaster, hit big-time football like a whirlwind. He swiftly won England under 23 recognition with the first of 63 full caps coming within 18 months as he soared to pop star status.
His potent, trophy-capturing alliance with Toshack became feared throughout England and Europe before Keegan joined Hamburg for £500,000 in 1977, going on to become European Player of the Year twice. He scored 100 Liverpool goals and said farewell by helping to win their first European Cup with a 3-1 conquest of Borussia Moenchengladbach in Rome. Later he played for Southampton and Newcastle - whom he also managed - received an OBE and in 1999 became England manager.

More stuff about Ian Rush
Standing supreme as Liverpool's all-time scoring king the lean Welshman was one of the deadliest strikers in football history, blending superb anticipation with lethal finishing. His attack partnership with Kenny Dalglish is widely rated the best ever in British football.
Rush became Britain's most expensive teenager when Bob Paisley paid £300,000 to sign him from Chester in 1980. During his two-part Anfield career, split by a season with Juventus in 1987-88 when he left and returned for a combined £6 million, Rush scored 346 goals in 660 senior outings, although in the League only he was 16 goals short of Roger Hunt's club record 245.
It was about the only one to elude him. Rush's haul of 44 FA Cup goals (39 of them for Liverpool) is a 20th century record while his five-goal total in FA Cup Finals (two in 1986 and 1989 and one in 1992 all on winning Liverpool sides) is an all-time best by an individual. Rush shares with Geoff Hurst the League Cup scoring record of 49 and was the first player to win that competition five times, completing his nap hand as Liverpool captain against Bolton in 1995. He scored 10 times in 18 Wembley outings for the club.
Honours with Liverpool: First Division Championship 1981/82, 1982/83, 1983/84, 1985/86 & 1989/90, FA Cup 1986, 1989 & 1992, League (Milk/Coca Cola) Cup 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 & 1995, European Cup 1984, Charity Shield 1982, 1986 (shared), 1989, 1990 (shared), Screen Sport Super Cup 1987

Phil Neal
Right Back (1974 - 1985)
Date of Birth: 20/02/51
Birthplace: Irchester, Northamptonshire
Debut : 16 November 1974 v Everton (a) Football League Division One: 0-0
1st team games: 648
1st team goals: 60
Other clubs: Northampton Town, Bolton Wanderers (player/manager, then manager), England (coach), Coventry City (manager), Cardiff City (manager), Manchester City (manager)
National team: (1976-1983) 50 caps/5 goals
Bob Paisley plucked Neal from Fourth Division obscurity at Northampton and transformed him into a player who would captain Liverpool, make 650 appearances, collect a joint-record eight Championship medals amongst a batch of honours and win 50 England caps.
He was Paisley's first signing, costing just £66,000 in October 1974, and was plunged into his top flight debut against Everton at Goodison a month later. Neal grasped his surprise opportunity to launch a glittering career essentially as a right back but with the capability of playing anywhere across the back line.
His tally of 60 goals was amassed largely through his expertise from the penalty spot, although one from open play proved to be a golden strike. His goal against Roma in the 1984 European Cup Final ensured Liverpool went into a victorious penalty shoot-out against the Italians on their own ground.
Seven years earlier at the same stadium he had dispatched the penalty against Borussia Moenchengladbach, which clinched Liverpool's first European Cup triumph with a 3-1 win. He became Bolton player boss in 1985 and later managed Coventry.
Honours with Liverpool: First Division Championship: 1975/76, 1976/77, 1978/79, 1979/80, 1981/82, 1982/83 & 1983/84, League (Milk) Cup 1981, 1982, 1983 & 1984, European Cup 1977, 1978, 1981 & 1984, UEFA Cup 1976, Charity Shield 1976, 1977 (shared), 1979, 1980 & 1982, European Super Cup 1977

Ray Kennedy
Midfielder (1974 - 1982)
Date of Birth: 28th July 1951
Birthplace: Seaton Delaval
Debut : 31st August 1974 v Chelsea (A) Football League Division One: Won 3-0
1st team games: 392
1st team goals: 72
Other clubs: Arsenal, Swansea City, Hartlepool United, Sunderland
National team: England (1976-80) 17 caps/3 goals
In one of English football's greatest positional switches of all time, Kennedy became a driving force in the Liverpool teams who lifted a succession of trophies under Bob Paisley in the 1970's and 1980's.
He was signed for a then club record £180,000 from Arsenal on the day Bill Shankly resigned as manager in July 1974. Kennedy arrived as a bustling, burly centre forward who had won the League and FA Cup double at Highbury three years earlier.
He struggled to find a Liverpool place until new boss Paisley tracked down Kennedy's former teacher in the player's native Northumberland and discovered he had been a schoolboy midfielder. He promptly switched Kennedy to the left flank where he excelled, winning England recognition and acclaim throughout Europe for his vision and finishing ability.
Perhaps the most memorable of his 72 Liverpool goals came at Munich's Olympic Stadium in the 1981 European Cup semi final second leg. His late strike secured a 1-1 draw with Bayern and a place in the final. Kennedy joined Swansea in January 1982 and later played for Hartlepool but has been cruelly afflicted by Parkinson's Disease.
Honours with Liverpool: First Division Championship 1975/76, 1976/77, 1978/79, 1979/80 & 1981/82, League cup 1981, European Cup 1977, 1978 & 1981, UEFA Cup 1976, Charity Shield 1976, 1977 (shared), 1979 & 1980, European Super Cup 1977

Emlyn Hughes
Defender (1967 - 1979)
Date of Birth: 28/08/47
Birthplace: Barrow
Debut : 4th March 1967 v Stoke City (H) Football League Division One: Won 2-1
1st team games: 665
1st team goals: 48
Other clubs: Blackpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Rotherham United (player/manager), Hull City, Mansfield Town, Swansea City

Full back, centre back and midfielder he was one of the great Liverpool captains and the first to hold aloft the European Cup after the majestic 3-1 victory over Borrussia Moenchengladbach in Rome in 1977.
Hughes, who also captained England and won 62 caps, was signed as a 19-year-old by Bill Shankly from Blackpool for £65,000 in 1967 after a mere 31 League and Cup appearances. But his infectious enthusiasm, skill and endless drive combined to make him a player of impressive stature and also prompted Everton fans to give him the enduring nickname 'Crazy Horse'.
Barrow-born Hughes was an inspirational figure for club and country and crowned his energetic displays with some spectacular goals, including two in the Mersey derby win at Everton in March 1973.
Hughes, an OBE, came from a sporting family; his father was former Barrow and Britain Rugby League star Fred, both his brother and uncle were R L professionals and one of his aunts was an England hockey international. His Anfield career ended when he joined Wolves for £90,000 in 1979.
Honours with Liverpool: First Division Championship 1972/73, 1975/76, 1976/77 & 1978/79, FA Cup 1974, European Cup 1977 & 1978, UEFA Cup 1973 & 1976, Charity Shield 1974, 1976 & 1977 (shared), European Super Cup 1977, Football Writers Palyer of the Year 1977

Roger Hunt
Striker (1959 - 1970)
Date of Birth: 20/07/38
Birthplace: Golborne
Debut : 9th September 1959 v Scunthorpe United (H) Football League Division Two: Won 2-0
1st team games: 492
1st team goals: 286
Other clubs: Bolton Wanderers
National team: England (1962-1969) 34 caps/18 goals
A superb goalscorer he let his feats do his talking for him. He was always unselfish and at all times a gentleman - qualities which earned him the sobriquet "Sir Roger" from an adoring Kop.
His first official title did not come until the 2000 New Year Honours list when he received an MBE, one of the last five members of England's 1966 World Cup winning team to be decorated. During the tournament he scored three times in six appearances and, overall, hit 18 goals in 34 England games, underlining the deadly finishing instincts of the 5ft 9in striker.
At Liverpool he developed an incisive attacking partnership with Ian St John and his haul of 245 League goals between 1959 and 1969 stands as a club record, as does his single season total of 41 in the 1961-62 Second Division promotion campaign.
But Liverpool found him by sheer chance. Club scout Bill Jones went to watch a Knutsford player in a Mid Cheshire League game but was alerted, instead, by a Stockton heath player called Hunt - and a majestic Anfield career beckoned. After winning two League titles and an FA Cup winners medal Hunt moved on to Bolton and is a long-serving member of the Pools Panel.
Honours with Liverpool: First Division Championship 1963/64 & 1965/66, FA Cup 1965, Second Division Championship 1961/62
