Huth signed

Liverpool have announced the signing of Paraguayan defender Ronald Huth.
The 17-year-old has penned a two and a half year deal after agreeing to leave Tacuary FC in his homeland for a new career on Merseyside.

Despite being born in Paraguay, Huth holds an Italian passport.

He completed his move to Anfield ahead of Wednesday night's transfer deadline.

Liverpool have also signed goalkeeper 16 year-old Dean Bouzanis from Australia.He was on a week trial and impressed enough to be offer a contract.

Liverpool eyes Asian market

Rick Parry, chief executive of English Liverpool, flew to the U.S. to meet with the new owners of the club, George Gillett, Jr. and Tom Hicks.

The club will be promoted more in the Far East and will likely play friendlies in Japan and China.

Rafael Benítez took the players to Portugal for a week of warm-weather training before the Champions League match against Barcelona.

In a Canadian newspaper interview, Gillett outlined how he and Hicks are planning to capitalise on their GBP 450 million investment. The plan included Benítez flying with the club to Asia for friendlies.

"Liverpool is the number one brand in Europe," said Gillett. "If you go to the Far East, where Manchester United has historically been the number 1 brand, Chelsea has recently become quite popular.

"They have a global branding concept which involves playing a number of games in the Far East. In that part of the world, Liverpool is number two and growing.

"We have had conversations with management in the last several months and I believe you will see Liverpool playing some friendlies in Asia. I think you'll see Japan first, in this coming year, and then others beyond that."

While Liverpool is in Portugal, it will hear the decision regarding the loan of English West Ham's midfielder, Javier Mascherano.

The decision to allow the deal has been delayed for almost two weeks by a Premier League examination, but it is thought nothing irregular has been discovered.

"You can expect a decision by the end of the week," a League spokesman said.

Giovanni Dos Santos Ramirez is set to become the latest young talent snapped up by the Reds.

Liverpool have stepped up their recruitment drive after seeing at first-hand how Arsenal’s young stars are performing and 17-year-old Dos Santos fits the bill.

The Barcelona B player came to prominence with his displays for Mexico in the World under-17 tournament in 2005.

Liverpool set to snap up Sheffield Utd youngster

Liverpool are eyeing Sheffield United's teenage winger Jacob Mellis.
Rafa Benitez, who has recently signed a host of top Spanish kids, is closing in on a deal for the Under-16 prospect who is about to quit the Blades.

Mellis starred for the United side against Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup and is now set to head for Anfield before he signs a professional contract at Bramall Lane.

Liverpool to sign wonderkid Bouzanis

Teenage Aussie goalkeeping prospect Dean Bouzanis has been offered a three-year deal by Liverpool after impressing Rafa Benitez in a trial.

The 16-year-old student is regarded as being one of the best young keepers around and the Reds have moved swiftly to secure his services - once he finishes high school.

Bouzanis is set to join in January 2008, once he has completed his studies and becomes eligible to move from a non-EU country, and will join the senior squad as opposed to the youth academy. He is of Greek origin although it is not understood if he holds an EU passport.

"It is unbelievable," the Australian Academy of Sport star told The Age. "I am a bit overwhelmed but I have to keep working hard because I have a big challenge ahead of me."

Bouzanis - who spent three weeks on trial at Liverpool's Melwood training complex this January - will finish his schooling and play for Sydney FC before moving to Anfield in the winter transfer window of next season.

"I got to train with the first-grade players and mingle with them and see what life is like for a professional footballer," he added of the experience which convinced Liverpool boss Benitez to sign the youngster.

The player's agent Terry Palapanis described the deal as groundbreaking:

"For a 16-year-old goalkeeper who will effectively not play for the first team yet, this is a deal that is worth a lot of money," Palapanis told The Age. "The money is really good - Dean's father is a solicitor and even he is amazed at what we negotiated."

"Dean is a freak of a prospect," Palapanis continued. "There were 22 clubs from Europe chasing him… but we chose Liverpool. It was too hard to refuse."

Villa keen on Liverpool

Valencia's star David Villa says he would consider moving to Liverpool in the future after the Reds were linked with the Spain striker.

Villa has admitted that he is aware of being tracked by sides in England and that - in particular - he is flattered by Liverpool's alleged interest.

"The talk is flattering," Villa admitted to the Star. "It makes you see that if you are doing things well, other teams should become interested in you... The day that happens, we will look at the situation then."

"Liverpool don't just have a Spanish coach but I also have a lot of friends there," he continued. "When Rafa (Benitez) was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia. But I couldn't arrive until the year after he left."

Villa, 25, has been a revelation over the last two seasons, scoring over a goal every two matches for Los Che and nine in 19 for the national team, where he has established himself as one of the three automatic squad choices along with Fernando Torres and Raul. And the player knows that eyes have been on him, although is happy to stay at Valencia - for now.

"There has never been anything concrete, so I am not going to talk about it too much," he added. "Things can happen in the future but right now I am happy at Valencia."

Liverpool striker Peter Crouch could be heading for Serie A Giants Juventus in a deal that would see David Trezeguet move the other way.

It is believed the two clubs have agreed to a co-ownership deal for England striker Crouch that would see the striker move to Juventus on loan for the whole of next season. Tuttosport are reporting that french striker David Trezeguet will move to Anfield as part of deal.

Pongolle wants Spain stay

Florent Sinama-Pongolle admits he has no desire to return to Liverpool having settled superbly to life in Spain.

The young French striker, 22, is currently on loan at Recreativo de Huelva and has helped transform the Andalusian outfit into the surprise package of the Primera season to date.

He has fired nine goals in a total of 14 league starts as Recre have climbed into seventh place in La Liga, just four points behind Real Madrid who occupy the final UEFA Champions League qualifying spot in fourth.

The front-man had previously been somewhat reticent to rule out a return to Anfield, but - while acknowledging he is still under contract to The Reds - now concedes he would prefer to continue his career in Spain.

"Today I don't have any desire to go back and sweat blood and tears again in England," he told the Fifa Futbol Mundial programme on Sky Sports.

"What I have out here in Spain suits me very well and I'd like to stay whether it's at Recreativo or somewhere else."
