Reds eye Hungarian starlet
Quote:
Liverpool have given a trial to Hungarian starlet Andras Simon, according to reports in Hungary.
The 17-year-old, who plays for Budapest-based side MTK Hungaria, is regarded as one of the country's brightest talents.
Simon is believed to be heading to the Merseysiders to spend a few days training with the Premiership giants.
Liverpool are always scouting for Europe's up-and-coming talent and have already agreed a deal for 16-year-old Swedish striker Astrit Ajdarevic.
Rafa Benitez and his coaching staff will now assess Simon's attributes with a view to making his Anfield stay a permanent move.
Simon would become Liverpool's second Hungarian to play for the club behind defender Istvan Kozma, who played for The Reds during the early 90s.

Atletico Madrid fancied Garcia swoop
Quote:
Atletico Madrid were hoping to sign Liverpool's Luis Garcia in January, before his serious knee injury.
The Spain striker is out for the rest of the season after injuring a cruciate ligament during the Carlling Cup humbling by Arsenal last week.
But before that Madrid's lesser-known team were hoping to take Garcia away from Anfield.
AS claims that Atletico have made enquiries about his availability, but have been knocked back by Liverpool.
The paper claims the situation could change in the summer, and meanwhile Atletico have been quoted a price of 20 million Euros for Benfica wide man Simao.

Dunfermline capture Hammill loan deal
Quote:
Liverpool youngster Adam Hammill has joined Scottish side Dunfermline on loan until the end of the season.
The 18 year old midfielder, who started training with the first team at Melwood last season and played a starring role in the Reds' FA Youth Cup triumph, could make his debut for the Pars against Rangers on Sunday.
"Adam is very highly-rated by Liverpool. They see him as having a big future at their club," said Dunfermline boss Stephen Kenny.
"He is coming here for experience but the move can certainly benefit us.
"I have watched a few Liverpool reserve games and I see him as a very, very exciting player."
Dunfermline are currently bottom of the SPL and lie nine points adrift of safety.

Kewell closing on return
Quote:
Liverpool star Harry Kewell believes he is finally close to making a return to action.
Kewell has not featured this season after picking up groin and foot injuries during Australia's World Cup campaign.
The former Leeds man underwent surgery at the back end of last year and Kewell was able to start running earlier this week.
Kewell is now hoping to be back to full fitness in a month and is targeting a return to action in the UEFA Champions League against Barcelona.
"I started running on Tuesday for the first time since the World Cup, so that was amazing," Kewell told the Sydney Herald Sun.
"Just getting to this stage is a major relief and a weight off my mind.
"I think the desperation to play gets cranked up a little now that I am back here at Liverpool.
"I know I am getting closer, but I'm so keen to get back into it now that it can't come quickly enough for me.
"This is the frustrating stage, when it's close enough that you start to get your hopes up. It is gutting seeing the boys play and knowing you can't be part of it - just yet.
"I hope I'm about three or four weeks away from being fully fit.
"I've been back in England since the middle of November.
"The lads are great here. They're always asking when I'm going to be ready and how I'm going, but you can't really feel part of it unless you're getting your shirt dirty with them."

Reds move for Ajax starlet
Quote:
Liverpool are reportedly ready to raid Ajax for youngster Jordy Brouwe.
The Reds are believed to have agreed a deal to bring the Holland Under 19 international to Anfield.
Brouwe has come through the ranks at Ajax's famed academy and he has caught the eye of Liverpool scouts with some impressive performances for club and country.
Ajax technical director Martin van Geel claimed he was surprised by Liverpool's interest as they were unsure if Brouwe was good enough to make the breakthrough at the Amsterdam ArenA.
"We didn't have the complete conviction that he was ready for it," Van Geel told AD Sportwereld
"Internally we have talked about Jordy a lot.
"That doubt stayed after Liverpool expressed their interest.
"I say that without bitterness, because I wish Jordy all the success at Liverpool."

Liverpool seal deal for Brouwer
Quote:
Liverpool have signed 18-year-old Dutch striker Jordy Brouwer from Ajax.
The player joins goalkeeper Daniele Padelli and defender Emiliano Insua as the new arrivals at Anfield in the transfer window.
"We've made a good signing for the future in Jordy," club chief executive Rick Parry told Liverpool's website.
"He had a youth contract at Ajax, but opted to build his career at Liverpool. We've monitored his progress and look forward to developing his potential."

Ajax was not that interest to keep him so I guess he's quite average.

Liverpool want to offer Alonso and Garcia a new contract.Same with Reina.Alonso and Reina I can understand but not Garcia...I don't think he's good enough if we want to challenge for the Premiership title in the future.

Diao's days at Anfield over
Quote:
Salif Diao has brought his Liverpool career to an end and signed for Stoke City until the end of the season.
The Senegal midfielder has spent the last three months on loan at the Britannia Stadium and has now agreed to stay with the Championship outfit for the rest of the campaign.
"We have had a nervous few weeks waiting to get the paperwork sorted out to get Salif here," said boss Tony Pulis.
"But we are very relived to finally get him here on a permanent basis. You only have to look at the amount of points we gathered while he was here to see what an important player he is to this football club."
Diao signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2002 and went on to make 59 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals.
