The transfer window closes at midnight tonight and Liverpool are unlikely to sign any new players before that deadline.

Rafa Benitez is ready to play John Arne Riise at centre-half. Benitez is prepared to experiment with Riise as a makeshift centre half over the coming months after conceding defeat in his search for defensive reinforcements. The search will be resumed in January.

Three Liverpool players have been called up by England for their fortchcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia. Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and on-loan goalkeeper Scott Carson have been included in Steve McClaren's England squad, but again there is no place for Jermaine Pennant.

Liverpool snap up Plessi from Lyon
Quote:
Liverpool have beaten the transfer deadline to snap up the services of French youngster Damien Plessi from Lyon.
The 19 year old holding midfield player will be added to the reserve ranks at Melwood.
"He is a good player, big and strong, and we're sure he'll do well for us," said manager Rafael Benitez today.
"He's only a young boy with plenty of time to work on his game but it depends on his progress how quickly he can force his way into the first team."

We didnt sign any big names and sold some big names. Just to prove how the new signings didnt have much effect, on the first 3 matches of the season, none of the new signings have started...
I think Marseille are the weakest side in this group, if you neutralize Nasri, 70% of the job is done. Besiktas may be tough, specially in Turkey. I Porto are stronger than Marseille and Besiktas, not on par with Liverpool but we'll definately put up a challenge.
I reckon our starting line-up on the 18th of January will be:
..........................Helton
Bosingwa....B Alves...P Emanuel....Fucile
........................Assunçao
...........Lucho....................Meireles
Lisandro..........Postiga..........Quaresma

It will be tough to meet Porto and Besiktas away but Liverpool have a good defense and I think Liverpool will get at least draw away. This could be a group Liverpool might well go through without any loss.Liverpool should beat all teams at home and I feel comfort the team will qualify from the group.Liverpool looks a lot stronger than last season.
