Kewell swoop?

Quote:
Injury-blighted Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell could end up at Manchester City if he leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

Bolton and Spurs are also thought to be monitoring the 28 year-old's situation as he struggles to overcome a foot injury that has kept him out of action for the entire campaign.

The Australian, who joined Liverpool from Leeds United for £5 million three-and-a-half years ago, would most likely sign on a pay-as-you-play basis, such is his terrible injury record in recent years.

Rafa could be keen to let him go because of his high wage at Liverpool.

Barcelona linked with Sissoko raid

Quote:
Reports in the Catalan press claim that Barcelona have included Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko on a four-man shortlist as they look to strengthen their midfield.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Los Cules are keen to recruit a ball-winning midfielder in the Edgar Davids mould in time for next season.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain has been charged with the task of bolstering Barca's options, and Sissoko, along with Valencia's David Albelda, Atletico Madrid's Peter Luccin and Yaya Toure of Monaco have all reportedly fallen under his gaze.

The dethroned European Champions appear to have little chance of coaxing Xabi Alonso from Anfield and could now try and bring Sissoko back to Spain where he previously enjoyed a spell with Valencia.

The Mali international performed superbly across both legs as The Reds knocked Barca out of the UEFA Champions League and his strong displays appear not to have gone unnoticed.

However Begiristain was reluctant to comment on specific names when quizzed on his recruitment plans.

"We are working for the next campaign but we will never talk about names in advance," Begiristain told Sport.

"It is logical because the speculation transmits to the press."

We have good cover in the centre now with Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko and Mascherano.Maybe Alonso or Sissoko will leave to summer.I sure hope not.We need all to challenge in all competitions. We need a big squad with many quality players. If all will stay until next season then it's great because we can concentrate reinfore other positions in the squad. The centre midfield is the only position I think looks complete.

Recreativo in bid to secure Sinama deal

Quote:
Florent-Sinama Pongolle is poised to leave Liverpool after it emerged Recreativo de Huelva are ready to discuss terms over a permanent transfer.

The French striker is currently on a season-long loan from Anfield at the La Liga club, who have an option to sign the 22-year-old at the end of the season.

Although Sinama-Pongolle has signalled he wants to stay in Spain, Recreativo have previously admitted they did not have enough money to sign the player.

But having agreed to sell striker Ikechukwu Uche to Getafe and midfielder Santia-go Cazorla set for Villarreal, Recrea-tivo believe they have the funds to complete the deal.

They are thought ready to offer Liverpool a package that could eventually be worth £4million, with Sinama-Pongolle having already agreed personal terms.

Sinama-Pongolle has proven a major success since moving to Spain, scoring nine goals in 14 starts to give promoted Recreativo the chance of a surprise UEFA Cup qualification.

Liverpool and Everton to share stadium?

Quote:
Liverpool Football Club's new owners are being urged by city council leaders to revisit the possibility of sharing their new stadium with rivals Everton.

US tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks want to make the Reds new home at Stanley Park even bigger than the planned 60,000-capacity but will need council permission.

Liverpool have always ruled out sharing with Everton but city council leader Warren Bradley, who is a season-ticket holder at Goodison Park, wants them to reconsider.

Mr Bradley has been quoted as saying: "They have got their guys (Dallas firm HKS) looking at designs, infrastructure and everything.

"Are you telling me a commercial business in America doesn't sweat the asset? They sweat that asset until they can't get any more out of it. If they can consider increasing the stadium size, why can't they consider a shared stadium?"

Everton are considering moving to a site outside Liverpool in Kirkby but Bradley believes that Goodison Park could be redeveloped.

He added: "I think in a few years' time they'll be playing in a new stadium and I think it will be in Liverpool. I would be happy with a joint stadium, I've got to be honest, but my gut feeling is probably not.

"I don't see any reason why Goodison Park can't be redeveloped. You could quite easily fit an additional footprint and some commercial activity - a hotel, for example - into a new development."

Reconsider?It's not an option anymore.

Kewell targets comeback

Quote:
Liverpool's injury-jinxed midfielder Harry Kewell looks set to make his long-awaited comeback next month.

Kewell, 28, has not made an appearance since featuring for Australia against Croatia in last summer's World Cup finals in Germany.

The former Leeds United wideman has been plagued by foot, ankle and groin ailments in the ninth months and has undergone a series of operations in a bid to cure his long-standing injury problems.

Kewell has reportedly targeted a reserve team outing in mid-April for his comeback and, should he prove his fitness, could then play for Australia in July's Asian Cup finals.

"It's terrific that he's on the way back," Australia's interim coach Graham Arnold told the Sydney Daily Telegraph.

"We can't bank on Harry's fitness just yet because of what he's been through, but to have him available again would be a huge boost for the team and the country.

"A player of his calibre being fit and hungry lifts everybody around the team. He's world class."

Arizmendi quiet on Reds link

Quote:
Javier Arizmendi insists his focus is on playing amid speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool.

Reports in Spain claim the Deportivo La Coruna striker is a summer transfer target for Reds boss Rafa Benitez.

Arizmendi is due to return to Atletico Madrid in the summer after the Vicente Calderon club took up an option to buy back the player.

Should the move collapse, Liverpool are believed to be ready use their excellent relationship with Deportivo to bid for Arizmendi.

A Liverpool scout is understood to be keeping tabs on Arizmendi, but the 23-year-old is remaining quiet on the link.

"I only want to play and about this subject the clubs will need to speak in the weeks ahead," he told Spanish daily AS.

Arizmendi have 5 goals on 25 appearances this season for La Coruna.Perharps not that kind of scoring rated striker we need...

No chance will the ground share ever take off. Both sets of fans are totally against it. And to be fair it seems like both clubs. Liverpool have their hearts set on building on the Victorian Park, while Everton have signed an exclusivity greement with Tesco to build our own stadium. So financially it doesn't seem in either clubs' interests to co-own a stadium, and the only winner would be Liverpool City Council, so they get to keep both teams within their area of control.

Default Liverpool owners to back Benitez in Eto'o bid

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will ask the club's new owners to back him in his bid to land unsettled Barcelona ace Samuel Eto'o.

The Daily Mail says Benitez will reiterate his desire to sign the Cameroon international tomorrow when he holds talks with new Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Benitez knows he needs reinforcements to bridge the gap between Liverpool and both Manchester United and Chelsea in the chase for silverware on the domestic front and in Europe.

And he will be granted his wishes to significantly strengthen his squad in the summer by billionaire partners Hicks and Gillett, who are determined to be go down in the annals of the club's history for all the right reasons.
