Everton V Liverpool
Quote:
Both Everton and Liverpool have had positive starts to the new season and have yet to suffer defeat, as they meet in a noon-hour kick-off - live on PremPlus.
New Toffees signing Andy Johnson looks to has lived up to his billing after netting two goals in the club's first three games, having earned a call-up to Steve McClaren's England squad for the recent Euro 2008 qualifiers.
David Moyes's side will be out to exact the results of last season against The Reds, as Everton lost both derby games by the same 3-1 scoreline.
For Rafa Benitez's side, Saturday's game begins an important week for the Anfield club, as Liverpool follow their visit across Stanley Park with a trip to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League.
That is followed by a vital Premiership contest at Chelsea the following weekend, as The Reds aim to make a real push to the title.
Benitez will hope striker Peter Crouch continues his fine form in front of goal, with the tall hit-man having found the scoresheet in the last three games.
Everton look set to meet their arch-rivals without the availability of striker James McFadden after he picked up a hamstring injury while on Euro 2008 qualifying duty with Scotland.
His absence will likely mean that James Beattie returns to the starting XI to partner Johnson in attack.
Benitez has a difficult choice to make in the striking department after Crouch and Dutchman Dirk Kuyt both scored while on international duty this week.
Craig Bellamy was in good form for Wales, while veteran Robbie Fowler has had two week's training to prepare for the contest.
Liverpool, however, are likely to be without Jamie Carragher and John Arne Riise with ankle injuries, but Mohamed Sissoko has recovered from a knee problem.

Brilliant game, The atmosphere was amazing. Best game I've ever been at. Everyhting about the game was great, even through Poll biast decisions we still came out far the better, or as the headline on the official site says 'Everton thrash Liverpool', not one of their players even stood out, whereas our enire squad done their job perfectly and shone, especially the Lescott-Yobo partnership with Tim Howard behind it, we need to get him in permanently at all costs, he was immense. Arteta played impressive defensively aswell as of course, an outstanding attacking player, he was a class above the entire Liverpooll midfield and make a mockery of Alonso. Cahill got involved alot more than usual and proved his worth defensively, in build up play, and of course the goal. Johnson is amazing, can't say anything more than that.
Topped it off with butterfingers screwing up a relatively easy ball to give us a goal and Riise looking like breaking his ankle trying to take out Arteta.

congratulations mate, absolutely fantastic result, everton should definitely be pushing for europe again this year.
i hope u dont keep howard tho, i really like him altho if he came back to us im not sure if hed be even within the top 3 choices . on tv the commentators were making fun of when he had to keep jumping on the ball that one time after a long shot to gather it but i thought he did really well there, not to mention all his other saves
PS to the first pic

He's brilliant mate, he keeps hold of nearly everything like glue, absolute solid keeper. Martyn retiring was a huge blow to us, but one plus that has came from it has been Howard coming, who has performed actually ebtetr than MArtyn who was solid enough, the challenge however will be keeping him, as it seems Ferguson has Kusczack at Utd. to get to knwo the player, and sent out Foster and Howard, 2 players he knows, to pick out the 3 the usccessor to VDS.

Howard is a strange one, he was great first half of his first season for us, then he had a run of bad form when he made some mistakes and never really got much of a look in since.
He has started very well at Everton though and with Foster looking like a great talent too United look like they are in a good position regarding keepers at the moment.
Whether you get to keep him will depend on Foster, VDS, possibly Kusczack and just how well Howard does for you.

A double edged sort in a way for us. If he performs great we may not keep him, and we won't have the financial clout to tempt Man U, whereas if he has a bad season, Man U wouldn't want him, but noether would us.

firstly, congrats to the BS, some absolutely fantastic displays from their side- Johnson, Cahill, Arteta, Neville, Lescott....and their work rate and effort deserved the points.
perversely, i didnt think we played too badly. even a staunch bluenose would admit 3-0 flattered them, but our defence was awful, carragher looked half fit, hyypia looked half asleep and aurelio looked half witted. we were clearly terrified of Johnson's pace, which is a poor showing. we can point to certain turning points, like Cahill on Xabi for the 2nd goal, and a possible foul by Osman on Finnan for the 1st, but lets be honest, we should have made them academic by defending properly, so no complaints on that front. big worry was bellamy's omission, i hope Rafa hasnt fallen out with him, we needed him yesterday, and our defending as a whole has to improve, or we'll be back to the drawing board before we know it. however, once again, hats off to the BS, enjoy your time in the sun.
PSV on Tuesday, on my birthday. 3 points and some solid defending please.

It is but with VDS wanting to extend his contract, if Foster keeps on playing as well as he is I can see us being willing to let Howard go even if he does well.

Fucking Crouch and Fowler what was that disabled bloke thinking?! If I was a Scouser in the red half I'd have been sitting there shouting "Run Fowler, RUN!!! FOR FUCK'S SAKE, CROUCH!" for the whole match. Well, no I wouldn't because if I was a scouser of any sort or description the first thing I'd do would be to ingest some razor blades to end the greater pain of being part of the great unwashed.
Especially if my goalkeeper couldn't play and my centre halves think movement in defending is optional.

True the fact that Poll didn't send either of the two Liverpool players off after were fallen in Everton's penalty box was downright criminal...

Both Osman and Finnan went for the ball.... Finnan neither got it, what Osman did didn't prevent Finnan getting the ball, he went past it anyway, isn't Osman allowed to attept to get the ball if there is a Liverpool player in the complete wrong place?

Couldn't ressist that.
