Default 100 years of The Kop

In today's match against West Ham the Reds will celebrate 100 years of the Kop.The first game to be played in front of the Kop took place on September 1 1906.It was not until the 1960s that singing became a popular pastime of those who stood on the Kop but, ignited by the passion of Bill Shankly, it quickly became renowned as the most vocal terrace in football. The 1970s saw the Kop become a much more colourful place as various flags and banners, either home made or gathered while following the team across Europe, were fervently displayed with increasing regularity. In the aftermath of the Hillsborough tragedy, the Kop became the centre-piece of what was an Anfield shrine to the 96 victims.

The Kop has always been regarded as one of the most sporting football terraces.

Liverpool celebrate 100 year of The Kop with a 2-1 win over West Ham.Zamora gave West Ham a 1-0 lead after a little blunder from Reina. But with a outstanding long-shot goal by Agger and a Crouch goal (after nice assist by Garcia) took Liverpool to a 2-1 victory.

Crouch again...could he really turn into a 20 goal a season striker?
For me Crouch has always been a funny utlity player. But if he starts scoring on a regular basis along with his dominating way of play then he could really turn into an asset along with the other very good strikers we have now...

I certainly agree.Crouch have made a big development in Liverpool since he sign last season.More experience from regular playing in Liverpool and chances he gets in the England squad has made him good and stable. He've become an important impact for the first team and in this season opening he has scored regulary. He's a kind of striker which can score and make assist as well.He have good ball process, good sight for his team mates and good football comprehension. If he continue play regular in the first team, he could turn into 20 goal a season. He gets much better service this season from the new signings in Pennant and Gonzalez which are more able to feed him with crosses into the box. After signing Kuyt it will be harder for Crouch to play same apperances like he did last season. So it will be tough for him to play enough matches to get so many goals. But you never know in football...

Well if Crouch keeps on scoring Benitez won't sit him on the bench...not even for Kuyt.
Even though we haven't lit the Premiership alight like ManU have in their first games and we just scraped through to the CL, what I've seen of Liverpool so far has been quite promising.
The play seems much faster, Kuyt and Gerrard seemed to have an immediate understanding, Pennant is getting lots of crosses in and with better timing Bellamy won't run offside quite as often.
If in addition the defense is almost as solid as last season it could be very interesting this year.

Commendable.

However, wasn't Hillsborough the same as Munich ? People who were held so dearly, killed ?

Yet, your Kop sing Munich songs..............And when have you ever heard a Hillsborough song ?

So should we praise them ?

I certainly do not think so.

The Kop. My greatest moment was when our kid smacked one in at The Kop to win 1-0.

Now that's a memory.
