morientes to valencia
Quote:
Liverpool have this evening confirmed that striker Fernando Morientes has joined Valencia for an undisclosed fee.
The Spanish striker didn't manage to live up to his reputation during his sixteen months on Merseyside and managed just 12 goals in 61 games for the Reds.
He was left out of the Spanish squad for this summer's World Cup after failing to play a major role in the Liverpool first team last season.

i dont understand why he went to valencia
they might play cl football next season but im sure he wont start unless they change their tactic which probably wont happen
theyve already got mista, angulo, kluivert as backup to the VILLA unless they leave
he wouldve been better of going to osasuna(cl next season) and seville

Mori is better than Mista, Angulo or Kluivert.

glad to see him get a decent move, he always worked hard for us, even though his form was more often than not, shite. shame it never worked out for him, he should have been a real class striker for us, but he never got going and he had to leave this summer.

we waited 18 months.....and he showed about 2 glimpses of quality. yes it may be hard to settle, but Garcia managed it, Alonso managed it, Pepe managed it, Sissoko managed it....
best for all involved if nando left. hopefully for him he can get back to some kind of form. i hope he hasnt lost it cos he seemed like a decent fella and a good pro

When Morientes joined, I really thought he'd be a top player over here.
But he's ended up a bit like Veron.
A top player who couldn't cut it in the Premiership.

agreed. He started well, then faded very badly. Could still produce moments of magic but overall wasn't up to the standard needed.

How come he did so well with Madrid and Monaco but failed to produce the magic with us?
...was the EPL too physical for him? though it didn't really look like it...

Generally, Spanish players find it very difficult in English football. Xabi Alonso has been a top exception to that rule, maybe because of Benitez, I don't know. So if Morientes couldn't cut it with a top manager like Benitez in charge, he wouldn't have been able to cut it with any other team in England, therefore necessitating his departure back to Espana.
I've always rated Morientes, but his time at Liverpool just really didn't click for him.
