Default Valencia defender move unlikely

Clubcall understands that Liverpool are highly unlikely to make a bid for Valencia youngster Yago Fernandez, writes Alan Dudman.

According to the player's father, Liverpool were in the hunt for the player's signature.

However, leading Spanish journalist Ivan Modia has told clubcall that Rafael Benitez is highly unlikely to make a bid for the 18-year-old centre-back.

"There is more interest from his father in Liverpool than there is from the club itself," Modia exclusively told clubcall.

"The rumour started with his father saying they had an offer from Liverpool.

"I cannot see it happening, Fernandez is a young centre-back that initially came from Real Madrid. He has played for Valencia reserves but has moved back into the youth team.

"His Dad wasn't happy about that and that is where the rumours started as he thought his son was worth more than that.

"The policy of Liverpool at the moment is not to bring in any more youngsters from La Liga.

"The player also has a buyout clause of 6 million euros so it is highly unlikely Rafael Benitez will spend that on a young player."
