Reds close in on Reina deal

Villarreal goalkeeper Jose Reina has reportedly arrived in Merseyside to begin talks over his proposed £8m move to Anfield.

The 22-year-old is poised to become Rafael Benitez's first signing of what promises to be a busy summer of transfer activity and, with Chris Kirkland seemingly heading to West Brom on loan, Reina will compete with Jerzy Dudek and Scott Carson for the number one shirt.

Liverpool return to pre-season training on Monday ahead of their Champions League showdown with TNS and by the time that game takes place, Benitez should have made futher additions to his squad.

Bolton midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos has been linked with a £1m move, while Real Sociedad star Mikel Arteta, who spent last season on loan at Everton, has also been linked.

personally i would have liked given, niemi, VDS, stekelenberg, cudicini ahead of him, but rafa's the boss, and he knows best.
