England new boy Peter Crouch is a target for the Reds after Southampton's relegation from the Premiership

Crouch's displays this season have earned him a host of new admirers as well as a call-up to the England squad and although Southampton are keen to keep him, Liverpool's interest will tempt the player.

Anfield boss Rafael Benitez is looking to add a more physical presence to his front-line and Crouch fits the bill of a player who still has plenty of time to improve under the Spanish coach.

Bolton are also keen on a move for Crouch but may be put off by Southampton's asking price.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez looks set win the race for Southampton striker Peter Crouch with a £5m offer.

Benitez sees Crouch, who made his England debut against Columbia on Tuesday, as the man to add a much-needed aerial presence to the Liverpool attack and he will line up in the Reds' frontline alongside Fernando Morientes and Djibril Cisse.

The 24-year-old had attracted interest from a number of Premiership clubs after he notched 16 goals last season, although that tally failed to save Saints from relegation.

he was decent last season but he aint liverpool class. johnson would be a better signing, or david villa, or bojinov, or anyone really!!
