Jamie Carragher has stoked up the Battle of Britain by hailing Steven Gerrard as England's finest midfielder ... and insisting: "I wouldn't swop him for Frank Lampard."
Chelsea star Lampard is hot tip for Footballer of the Year after a fabulous season.
But Carragher, who has been inspirational at the heart of the Liverpool defence, said: "For me, StevieG is the best in England and he'll be out to prove that against Chelsea.
"We got a draw at Juventus without him and they are probably on a par with Chelsea so he must make us stronger.
"I'm glad he's on our side and I'm sure the Chelsea lads are wishing he could be on theirs because they realise what a top player he is. To have both Xabi Alonso and Stevie back together in midfield will be fantastic.
"I know Frank from our Under-21 days with England and he's been outstanding for Chelsea, as has Claude Makelele, but I wouldn't swop our two.
"Stevie missed Turin but we know he will give us a top performance against Chelsea.
"This is exactly the stage he loves, a platform where he can show everyone what he can do."
Last week's performance in Turin has convinced Carragher that speculation over Gerrard's future is not harming Liverpool's European cause.
"Look, it's up to Stevie what he does in the summer," he added. "The lads want to win this for ourselves, the club and the fans, and I'm sure Stevie will say it himself - that Liverpool aren't out to win the Champions Cup to keep Steven Gerrard happy and at Liverpool.
"I want to be in the final - we all do - because we all want success.
"If Stevie has a decision to make at the end of the season, that's up to him.
"But the club will move on whatever happens, although we're all hoping he'll stay."

stevie and alonso have more latent ability than frank and maka, yet frank and maka have been world class performers at all levels in every game.
im sure liverpool's two can be like that one day, but atm they are not and i for one would not swap the two.

Alonso was doing great until Fat Frank butchered his ankle.
Gerrard has been class all season.

i seriously don't know how you can put up with these fags failing to talk football, Rule. i see they don't need to back up their opinions.
anyway, i was wanting to contact you about something liverpool-related, if you're interested. thought maybe this would be a place to get hold of you.

I don't know when coventry lite posted that:
Ronaldinho
Shevchenko
Totti
Cassano
Adriano
van Nistelrooy
Eto'o
Julio Baptista
where all better than Henry
but surely having had time 2 reconsider he must realise that was silly...
look at the consistency with which Henry delivers
a more consistent player than ANY of the above over the last 5 years
