Question So what the FH do we do now then??

The Duke's out for the Pompey game which will be our most important game ot' season when it comes round - assuming Blackburn don't nail us 7-0 or something ridiculous like that! We only have 2 strikers, now we only have one. ::upset::

So, who are we going to field who's not going to cause disruption to the starting XI formation?

We could play Smith as a lone striker but that would mean fielding either a 4-5-1 or a some kind of diablo formation. 4-5-1 is not an option as far as I'm concerned - far too defensive a formation when we need to be attacking and even a 5-man midfield with our choice of midfielders would get over-run at every available opportunity.

I vote:

1. Chewy - I reckon if fit he's our best option - he were pretty good when he were a makeshift forward a while back and scored a few goals. Plus it would probably perplex Pompey since it's not his favoured/natural position so they won't know what to expect. He'll also provide that much needed aerial threat that we often lack. That way we don't have to start shifting people around (or play Harte) and we can stick with 4-4-2.

2. Si Johnson - he's been banging the goals in for the youth team/reserves. Maybe it's time to see what the lad's made of. Again, minimum disruption to the starting XI and Pompey wouldn't know what to expect.

3. Milner/Pennant - for me I feel we need them on the wings far more than upfront (especially after their performances V. Leics). Unless we played one of them sitting just behind Smith and gave Lennon a start. Doubt Eddie will want to be that 'adventurous' or daring though.

4. Errrr......Dubes? ::shocked: Well he's scored a few this term and he likes getting forward. He had a right bitch and moan session about being stuck in the reserves and seems to be under the impression that he's the man to save us ::wow:: so maybe he could put his money where his big fuck off mouth is.

5........Nope, I'm out.

Your thoughts please. This could turn out to be one of our most important decisions ot' season! And rival supporters - feel free to give your opinions.

(I would also like to add that if Smith gets booked at Blackburn, he's out for the Pompey game too and then we really are fucked good and proper.)

Who do you support? Welcome to TS anyway and feel free to introduce yourself on the "new signings" thread.

I beg to differ though. The midfield is the most important element of any squad for me. But since both our defence and our midfield is severly lagging I think we've done well to still be within touching distance of safety TBH.
