Default Revie plots Leeds takeover

Quote:
Duncan Revie - son of former Leeds United manager Don - has outlined his intention to form a consortium capable of buying the club.

Leeds were plunged into administration on Friday, incurring a 10-point penalty to confirm the club's relegation to League One.

The club's administrators immediately agreed to sell The Whites to a group called Leeds United Football Club Limited, headed by Ken Bates.

But, appalled at The Whites' decline in recent seasons, businessman Revie is hoping to restore the glory days at Elland Road.

Revie runs a company called Soccerex and has revealed there is strong interest with regards to putting together a takeover package.

"What is happening to Leeds is a bloody disgrace," Revie told the Mail on Sunday. "I cried when I watched the result against Ipswich last weekend.

"I've tried to ignore my feelings for a long time as I know the aggravation needed to put things right.

"But when things get this bad, I can't ignore it. My feelings run too deep.

"I am interested in trying to get Leeds back where they belong, which is in the top six of the Premiership.

"I've held talks with some influential people and the feedback has been good. I will be holding more talks in the next few weeks."

Don Revie (pictured) presided over the most illustrious period in Leeds' history and was manager of the club between 1961 and 1974.

He won two First Division titles, was runner-up a further five times, lifted one FA Cup, a League Cup and also two Fairs Cup trophies.

New Revie era for Leeds?

Quote:
The son of Leeds legend Don Revie is considering mounting a bid to take control of the stricken West Yorkshire giants.

Despite going down to League One a number of parties are looking to snatch control of the Elland Road club.

Former Leeds director Simon Morris has already thrown his hat into the ring to take over from current chairman Ken Bates.

However, Duncan Revie is now looking into the possibility of making a bid.

"Ken Bates wants proof of funds but the money is not a problem - my problem is can I recreate my Dad's team and getting the people who can find those players," said Revie.

"I will not do this unless I can do it 100%, and I have a lot on my plate at the moment in terms of my business, but my heart is ruling my mind.

"I don't want to mess about, it has to be getting back to where we were.

"Some would say that's a pipe-dream, but when Dad walked into the dressing room when we were in the old second division and changed the strip to all white and said 'I'm going to make you as great as Real Madrid', that was a pipe-dream too - except that it happened.

"We need a structure to identify the players, and a genius as a manager. Sir Alex Ferguson is a genius, Arsene Wenger is a genius. There are football geniuses and that's my challenge, to find one."

Revie stalling on Leeds bid

Quote:
Duncan Revie has admitted his bid for Leeds United will not be ready in time for the crucial creditors' meeting.

The meeting, which is due to be held on 1st June, will decide whether a new company headed by Ken Bates will gain control, subject to creditor and Football League approval.

Revie was expected to mount a bid for The Whites along with Simon Morris, however, he cannot commit and is having second thoughts.

That leaves Morris' £10million offer as Bates' only rival, and, despite much criticism, Revie believes the former Chelsea supremo's intentions are honourable.

"The money's not an issue," Revie told the Times on his bid. "We have that, but I would not want to take it on unless I was sure we could do it justice.

"We are still thinking about it but nothing will happen in time for the creditors' meeting.

"Love him or loathe him, Ken has got where he is by being a very shrewd negotiator. I think his intentions are fairly honourable."

Revie's Leeds bid back on

Quote:
Duncan Revie has provided proof he has the funds in place to purchase Leeds United.

Revie looked to be out of the running to buy the Elland Road club when he claimed his bid would not be ready in time for a crucial creditors' meeting next Friday.

But the son of legendary Whites manager Don Revie has now submitted proof of funds to Leeds' administrators KPMG.

Revie is still to make a formal bid for the club and will decide over the weekend whether he will put in an offer prior to the meeting on 1st June.

"The creditors' meeting has never been a deadline for me," he said.

"We have a much longer-term view of taking on the whole thing and will not be rushing into our judgment.

"We have lodged proof of funds with the administrators. We have not lodged a bid.

"We need to see the figures first and you don't get to see the figures unless you can prove you have the funds available.

"By the end of the weekend we'll know whether or not we're going to make a bid."

Revie is believed to be working for an individual backer, reportedly based in Dubai, although he refused to reveal the identity.

"That person wishes to remain anonymous, but you could probably guess who it is if I say the financial backing is coming from the Middle East," Revie added.

The creditors' meeting will decide whether a new company headed by Ken Bates will gain control, subject to creditor and Football League approval.

Simon Morris has already launched his £10million rival offer for the club while various other consortia are also considering making bids.
