Default Leeds secure Gray stay

Quote:
Leeds United have been boosted by the news that full-back Michael Gray is set to stay with the club for the remainder of the season.

The Blackburn defender had been on a month's loan at Elland Road, although he is now in line to play a key role in their last two crucial Championship fixtures.

The former Sunderland favourite missed last Saturday's late 1-0 loss at Southampton, but should return against Ipswich this weekend.

Blackburn have inserted a 24-hour release clause and Leeds will be hoping to keep Gray after losing Lubomir Michalik back to Bolton last Friday.

One player who is back at Leeds is experienced shot-stopper Neil Sullivan after his second loan spell with the League One outfit Doncaster concluded.

Sullivan, who is out of contract this summer, is unlikely to play again for Leeds with Casper Ankergren is fine form for Dennis Wise's troops.

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe boss Nigel Atkins is letting Leeds focus on staying up before holding talks regarding striker Jermaine Beckford's future.

Beckford is yet to shine with Leeds, but played a key role in helping The Iron secure promotion to the Championship with a number of goals.

Atkins has hinted Scunthorpe want to keep Beckford's services permanently, but is waiting until Leeds conclude their season before making a move.

"Leeds have got enough on their hands. It's probably best to let them finish their season before starting any talks about Jermaine," said Atkins.

"But he's done very well for us. There hasn't been that `big-club' pressure here, he's been able to come in, score a couple of goals and his confidence has automatically risen."
