Stone set to hang up boots
Quote:
Leeds United's former England international winger Steve Stone is set to retire from football.
The former Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest man has endured an horrendous time with injury during his time at Elland Road.
Stone missed virtually the whole of last season with an Achilles injury before suffering a groin strain this time around.
The 35-year-old has been limited to just six Championship starts for The Whites, with chairman Ken Bates confirming he has played his last game for Leeds.
"Steve has played his last game for us," explained Bates. "Discussions are taking place with a view to him retiring on health grounds.
"To be fair to the lad, he has had wretched luck with injuries, but life must move on."
