Defiant Carver admits job fears
Quote:
Leeds United caretaker boss John Carver admits results need to start improving straight away if he is to cling onto his job.
The former assistant manager was placed in temporary charge when Kevin Blackwell was sacked last month, but a 4-0 home defeat to Stoke on Saturday plunged the club further into crisis.
Leeds are now just two points off the bottom of The Championship but Carver, who would like the job full-time, cannot plan a long-term escape as he does not know how long he will remain at the helm.
"My situation is I'm judged on results and I need a result, that's for sure," he told Sky Sports News.
"Thinking of just the next game, and not on the future of the football club, then I've got a problem."
With Leeds failing to meet expectations the frustration of the fans is growing by the week, but Carver insists he is working hard to turn the club's fortunes around.
"Funnily enough, since Kevin left I've not had a day off because I've been working hard to try to improve the squad.
"It's no good just sitting on what you've got, you've got to try and improve what you've got.
"After what we achieved last season, which was fantastic, anything less than that is a big disappointment to the players, the staff and the fans. This club needs to have success."
Carver was given the backing of Ken Bates when he first took the reins at Elland Road, and he believes the chairman still has confidence in him.
"He's not really shown it if he's worried. He's been really supportive. He's been right behind me," Carver explained.
"He's a very successful guy and he knows what he's doing. He proved that at Chelsea and he's sorted the football club out at Leeds United.
"He stays positive and is one of the most positive guys I've met.
"Nothing is sorted out overnight and it does take a little bit of time. Hopefully we are going in the right direction."
