Lotito considers moving Lazio Wednesday 12 September, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lazio President Claudio Lotito is threatening to relocate the side to a new site south of Rome if the Biancocelesti can’t build a new stadium in the Eternal City.
Roma and Lazio currently share the Stadio Olimpico, but the site is much closer to the main bulk of the Giallorossi fanbase than the Aquile faithful.
Lotito has been seeking permission to build a new stadium for Lazio for the last three years, but claims he has met with a wall of red-tape.
“If the council fail to understand the importance of this project, I’m ready to move Lazio to Valmontone, where they would be delighted to host a single-use stadium,” he growled on Radio Radio.
The comune of Valmontone is located 45km south of the capital and is a hotbed of Lazio support. The council are keen to embrace development and there are plans to build Europe’s biggest theme park nearby.
"I don’t want to cause trouble with anyone, but this is something that needs to happen for the good of the city and if we don’t get the go-ahead shortly we won’t have any trouble relocating to Valmontone,” Lotito threatened.
“We haven’t forgotten that the majority of our fans live outside the city of Rome.”
However, the man in charge of town planning in Rome Roberto Morassut has stressed his disappointment at Lotito’s impatience and claims he hasn’t seen a full proposal for a stadium in the city.
“Lotito knows our position well,” he insisted. “If he suggests a site that is allowed under our new regulations we will look at it carefully, but we have been waiting two years for such a proposal.”

They have their debt in control, there own stadium will pay enormous dividends in the long term, and they would have an advantage over Roma.

That would be completely unfair, and the city would have to be compensated some how.
In the end, a nice new stadium will happen I imagine.

I think it would make a lot of sense for Lazio to move. The stadium would likely be smaller, but would also likely be a real football stadium (vs one with running tracks around it).
I'm surprised both Inter and Milan are still using the same stadium...

Milan and Inter are much more closer than you think. If one team breaks away from the Meazza/San Siro, it will be Inter.

Lazio may hold stadium vote Thursday 13 September, 2007
With opinion on Lazio’s proposed move to a new stadium outside Rome dividing opinion, there has been a call for a referendum.
Lazio currently share the Stadio Olimpico with city rivals Roma, but traditionally the areas outside the Eternal City are Biancocelesti areas with the centre more Giallorossi orientated.
Lazio President Claudio Lotito is keen to build a new home for his club - the Stadio delle Aquile – but has revealed that he may choose a location to the south of Rome.
The region in question is Valmontone – a comune which lies around 40km south of Rome and is a hot bed of Lazio support.
“Lazio would move nearer to 80 per cent of the fans who live in the province,” the area’s ex-major Angelo Miele insisted.
“Valmontone isn’t open countryside, it’s 10 minutes from Rome and there are good transport links.”
However, ex-captain Beppe Signori reflects the views of many faces from the club’s past, stressing that Lazio belong in Rome.
“The club was born at the Stadio Olimpico and should stay there,” the penalty king stated. “I say that as an ex-player as it wouldn’t be right for the fans to move.”
All the debate has led to the suggestion that there should be some kind of vote to allow the supporters to have their say.
“I’m very worried as it will separate the club from its supporters and its history,” declared Alessandro Cochi, Vice-President of the Sporting Commission of Rome City Council.
“The results could be catastrophic so I hope that there is some kind of survey or referendum involving the fans.”
