“I play on the right, even if I have also been used in midfield at many times in my career. Director of sport Sabatini said Lazio were looking for a right-back and here I am. I will arrive on July 9.”

His contract with Racing Santander has expired, so Scaloni will be able to make the move to Lazio free of charge.

He started his career at Newell’s Old Boys and Estudiantes before moving to Europe for Deportivo La Coruna and West Ham United in the second half of the 2005-06 campaign.

Scaloni was surprisingly picked in Argentina’s 2006 World Cup squad ahead of Inter captain Javier Zanetti.

I do not know what to say for this.

Is this good or bad news? He failed in West Ham, and I haven't kept track of his progress. We will wait and see whether he is the player to be our RB next season . No matter what happens, De Silvestri has to be the 2nd choice because he is a player who has a bright future ahead. I hope he signs a contract with Lazio soon.

Ah, I didn't realise it was a free transfer.

I suppose you can't complain then, he's got some CL experience anyway.

He came on a free transfer. I am hearing different things about him, some West Ham fans said he did well in the early going, and some are saying he didn't deserve to be in the WC squad ahead of Zanetti.

I would leave the judging to Rossi.

Reports in the peninsula suggest that Lazio’s Argentine defender Lionel Scaloni is ready to quit the Eternal City for a return to La Liga with Mallorca.

Despite making 12 appearances so far this term – seven as a starter – Scaloni has reportedly failed to adapt to life in Italy after spending the majority of his career in Spain.

It has been a tumultuous time at Lazio as last season’s surprise heroes have stuttered in the bottom half of the table, and it is possible that the reported tensions in the dressing room have affected Scaloni.

The Biancocelesti snapped up the international stopper on a free transfer during the summer when his contract at Racing Santander expired.

Scaloni had spent nine years at Deportivo La Coruna and came highly recommended by Lazio’s scouts, but now he seems to be packing his bags.

It is believed that Mallorca are ready to pay around £650,000 to complete a permanent deal and the Aquile are unlikely to block the transfer.

Scaloni is expected to agree personal terms with the Barralets before the end of the week and could bid farewell to Delio Rossi’s squad within the next 48 hours.
