Fans start petition to ban transfers from Inter
Quote:
Juve fans ban Stankovic Saturday 28 June, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The controversy over Dejan Stankovic’s move to Juventus rolls on as fans start a petition to ban any transfers from Inter.
The Bianconeri have confirmed they are interested in signing the Serb midfielder, but this decision has caused shockwaves in the fan community.
A petition has been started to convince the club that Stankovic would be the wrong move for a number of reasons.
When he left Lazio in January 2004, he had seemed set to join Juve, but at the last second chose rivals Inter instead.
Also, he was among the most vocal detractors of Juventus during the Calciopoli scandal, when the 2005-06 title was stripped from the Turin giants’ record and handed to Inter.
“Stankovic is a wide midfielder and we need someone who can lead the play from the middle of the park,” pointed out pundit and legendary Juve supporter Giampiero Mughini.
“As for Inter, we will only resume negotiations of any kind with them when they admit they did not win their 14th Scudetto.
“Until that day, no exchanges or transfers, let alone this one. It is inelegant for Juve to gather the crumbs that have fallen from other people’s tables…”
A similar situation is emerging at Atalanta, where the supporters are protesting against Christian Vieri’s possible return to the club.

If I can find a link to the petition I'll post it, I'm on board with this.

That's pretty funny and understandable from a fans perspective. But, when Juve went to B....inter didn't hesitate in taking Ibra, Vieira....But, the Juve ultra's will explode if he signs.
Can't wait to hear "Azzurri" comment on this.

"We win without stealing"
That's what the entire Inter team sang during their scudetto celebrations, and thats y the fans dont want Stankovic. Remember this is a team who stole Juve's scudetto for a year not covered under their wiretaps, and won a title with no competition because they pulled some strings. In other words, their just saying what Moratti wants, since any1 impartial can see how hypocritical and stupid it is for Inter to say such things.
To be honest, I dont really care. After the summer of 06, a players words mean little to me. I think we can do better than Stankovic, but if the price is right, I'm not to bothered. Juve seem to have a gift at revitalizing the careers of Interista in their 30's (Cannavaro, Zanetti), so this could prove to be good business.

Also, if this means our ultra's will whistle his every touch, than its better off we avoid the mess. The player will never perform with constant chants that he is a piece of Interista scum, etc.

Good point...that's not good for team morale, especially when Juve will be back in CL action. Can you imagine playing a CL match at home and Stankovic being booed and whistled and banners with negative comments about him/Inter....brutal.

“We are looking for a quality midfielder and a goalkeeper. We don’t want to take the fans for a ride and will keep our feet on the ground, so those are the only arrivals,” general manager Jean Claude Blanc told Tuttosport.

Ignoring it's Tuttosport, if what he is saying is true, than this is a poor transfer. I thought Stankovic would be signed on top of a cm signing. If its at the expense of Xabi, etc, than this is a shit move.

Obviously sucking up to the fans, or at least trying to calm them down.
But as you say, that was written in a pro-Juventus newspaper.

Nedved---Stankovic---Sissoko----Camo
I dont like it. I would rather pair Zanetti with Sissoko.
I figured our interest in Stankovic was a result of Ranieri having to unsuccessfully field Brazzo and Nocerino at rm during the constant injuries to Camo and Marchionni last season.

It's an alright midfield, not exactly Scudetto winning though.
I'd like our big CM signing to be a goalscorer but Stankovic just doesn't score enough for my liking. But then again, neither does Alonso....

I agree, I just like the balance Xabi would give to our midfield in comparison to Stankovic, who I would rather play in Camo's or Nedved's position.
Ideally it would be nice to have a box to box cm, but I think Xabi can make up for that with his passing/vision.

Zanetti is getting a raw deal here. Fair enough he's the wrong side of thirty but he had a great season and deserves his spot next season.
Alonso is still a good age and can improve. I'm confident the pace of Serie A will help his game and add elements to it. Alonso can get forward and likes to do so, it's just Benitez prefers him sitting deep and picking out his passes.
Grrr... we better not pass on Alonso so we can get a player that, imo, isn't good enough.

Two signs have recently been placed just outside the cities of Turin and Bergamo warning Dejan Stankovic and Christian Vieri they are not welcome and should think again before signing for Juventus and Atalanta. Why? Because the clubs’ fans consider them unfit to honour the badge and wear the shirt, which it adorns, for the simple reason that the two players have in the past been disrespectful towards the Bianconeri and Nerazzurri.
At first glance, the Ultras’ protests against the transfers appear narrow minded, a trifle flippant perhaps and detrimental to their clubs. But their dissent, far from being frivolous, reflects a battle for the soul of the game, which is under threat of extinction by corporate and private interests who are increasingly hard of hearing when faced with supporters’ grievances.
The case against Stankovic is as illustrative as any. Here is a player who signed a contract with Juventus in 2004 only to leap into the arms of Inter after President Massimo Moratti offered him more money. Here is also a man who never misses an opportunity to bring up Calciopoli and drag Juventus’ name through the mud, a man who has revelled in the Bianconeri’s misfortunes, singing “we win without stealing” when Inter finally clinched Lo Scudetto in 2006.
Is it any wonder Juventus’ fans don’t want him at the club? I suppose many of them would accept that the Bianconeri could do with a player like Stankovic – linking the midfield with the attack – but not the person. If his name appeared on the back of a Juventus shirt, it would make a mockery of it.
When fans and their say in a club’s actions are increasingly under threat from detached for-profit owners, all too willing to hold values hostage to fortune, I think the Ultras should be commended for their stance and belief that football is not just about winning matches, but something much more profound.
