Well Caracciolo will now go straight into the team, this is good news for him. He's capable but obviously not as much of a goalscorer as Amauri is.

Terrible news for Amauri....he was having a fantastic season so far. Hopefully Totti's doctor can do the same magic for Amauri. I guess this also effects his chances of being called up for either Italia/Brazil national team...shame!

Well, he definitely won't play for Brazil any time soon, however I'm not convinced now that he'll never play for Italy.

If he is hot, and scoring goals in the future, if he is uncapped, he will be called.

We will need five capable strikers for the Euro..you just never know.

Personally, i hope he doesn't get called...if his heart is with Brazil...let him pray for his chance! If he isn't good enough to make Brazils squad, why should he be able to make the best team in the worlds squad?...doesn't make sense! We have Gila, Cassano, Iaquinta, Toni, Totti (if he decided to play) Di Michelle, Di Natale etc...we are fine up front, our midfield is great with De Rossi, Perro, Guttuso, Pirlo, Camo. maybe Aquilani. Our Deffenders may struggle in 08...Canna, zamb, nesta, oddo, matrix, barzagli, zaccardo...and Gigi! they deserve to wear the azzurri shirt for all the work they have put in!

Unfortunately, you know as well as I do, if Amauri is hot, and popping in goals left and right, he will be called since if he isn't called, the Italian media and critics will lambaste him for leaving a capable striker at home.

So in essence, calling him if he is hot of course, is safer than not calling him...do you understand what I'm saying?

Look at it this way, by 2010 there'll be no Totti, Del Piero, Toni or Inzaghi so he definitely has a chance. He's a unique player as he's big and good in the air as well as having good feet and technique, you'll get no complaints from me if he's called up.

All good points. Its too early, but if he is playing great, you just don't know, and I wouldn't count him out yet.

Yes, i completely undersand. It's better to have more options then none. And as Joel stated by 2010, Italy will need more forwards, as our stars will be nearing the end of their careers. I just don't see him making the cut anytime soon...he has a better chance of 2010...rather than 08...but by 2010, Brazil may change their opinion on him...and Italy risk losing him!

I just think we should get him in now to avoid disappointment further down the line.

He'd be a bigger loss to us than to Brazil.

well, nothing is going to happen any time soon that he is injured.

Secondly, I don't agree that we should cap him, just because he might to turn out to be great, in a position we are not that weak???

I doubt he will be called....by the time the next WC comes around, there will be another batch of Brazilian strikers that come around.....

And for some reason, I expect the next Brazilian team will be more Brazilian, and I mean there players will be playing in Brazil.
