Official: New Delle Alpi for the 2011/2012 season
Quote:
Juventus have confirmed that renovation work on their Stadio Delle Alpi will finally get underway next year.
The club have been planning to turn the stadium into a more fan friendly arena for some time, but have been stalled by numerous problems.
However, chief operating officer Antonio Giraudo has today confirmed that the project is on the verge of being given the green light.
"We had already wanted the work to have started back in May 2004, but bureaucracy got in the way and that has caused this delay," Giraudo stated.
"We will unveil our final plans in April 2006, as well as revealing the name of the stadium’s sponsor which will also be used as the arena’s new name.
"Thanks to this reconstruction, we will have a five-star facility which will allow us to quadruple our usual stadium income.
"It could all be completed in the space of two years."
Although the Delle Alpi was only built for the 1990 World Cup Finals, it has proved to be an unpopular venue for fans.
Many complain that the view is not ideal, mainly because of the redundant running track which circles the pitch.
Although the 70,000 capacity is expected to be greatly reduced, the running track will be removed, with the stands subsequently brought closer to the field of play.

I hate running tracks around pitches, this is good news. I wish they would do the same thing with the Olympico.

maybe they should make the capacity really small so it looked like people are actually there.

I'll bet the attendances improve after the work is done, I'll try and get down to watch the opener..probably a high profile friendly of some sort.

I hope the new Stadio Delle Alpi will have the same feel as the old Stadio Communale which faired better attendance back in the old days.
