Almiron serves up Plate move Monday 31 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus outcast Sergio Almiron has confessed he’s “proud” to hear of interest from Diego Simeone’s River Plate.
The former Empoli midfielder has struggled to make an impact in Turin since his summer switch, falling behind Antonio Nocerino and Cristiano Zanetti in the pecking order.
“All I want is to play, whether it means fighting for a place at Juve or going elsewhere if the opportunity presents itself,” Almiron told newspaper ‘Olé.’
There are reports he could be heading back to his native Argentina for River Plate, now coached by former Lazio and Inter star Simeone.
“Simeone is my idol, as I always appreciated his style of play and his character. If he put in a request for me, then I cannot help but be proud. We have to evaluate this and also the possibility of moving to another European club.”
Almiron has only ever played in Argentina for Newell’s Old Boys, but moved to Italy at the tender age of 20 for Udinese.
“I don’t know anything yet. I have been told something, but there is nothing formal as of yet,” added the midfielder who has also been linked with Besiktas and Olympiacos.
“It is important to play for a big club, as if you do well then everyone notices, including those who pick the national team.”

Almiron nets Greek offer Wednesday 2 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sergio Almiron’s agent has confirmed that Olympiacos are the latest side to show an interest in the Juventus player.
“I can confirm an offer from the Greeks,” said Claudio Vagheggi on Wednesday. “But I can also state that a number of other important European clubs have been in touch too, as well as River Plate.”
The Argentine’s future in Turin is in jeopardy given his struggles with Juventus since his £6.5m transfer from Empoli.
Having started the campaign as a first choice, he’s been relegated to the bench as boss Claudio Ranieri has opted for a Cristiano Zanetti and Antonio Nocerino partnership.
“I’ll meet up with the Juventus directors over the next few days,” added Vagheggi. “For now it seems as if the club want to keep him for at least until the end of the season.
“There is a desire to give him a chance and the player himself wants to repay the club for that kind of belief.
“However, the transfer window is about to open and things can change from one minute to another in this game.
“Saying that, I would expect him to remain. If he is sold then that would only occur at the end of the season.
“For now, Almiron is calm seeing as he has a five-year contract. We will then evaluate everything at the end of the campaign.”
Whispers had suggested that Fiorentina could make a New Year bid, but Vagheggi insists there has been no contact.
“I’ve not spoken to [Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo] Corvino,” he noted. “It’s too soon to talk of a move, let us just see how the situation evolves.”

Sergio Almiron’s proposed move to Greek side Olympiacos seems to have broken down.
“I discussed all the options with Olympiacos and there was an agreement between the clubs for a loan deal with a possible buy-out in the summer,” Calenda explained.
“But the lad decided that he would rather stay put and see what happens. He wanted to wait a bit and the Greeks weren’t willing to delay.”

Almiron to make Monaco move Tuesday 22 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus midfield reject Sergio Almiron is set to snub Fiorentina to join Monaco on loan, according to the player’s agent.
The Old Lady can be a demanding mistress and Argentine ace Almiron has learned to his cost that expectations in Turin are sky high.
The 27-year-old only joined the Bianconeri last June, but he has already been deemed surplus to requirements and is preparing to leave in search of first-team football.
“Fiorentina have shown an interest in the player,” Almiron’s representative Claudio Vagheggi told Violanews.com.
“I spoke to their sporting director Pantaleo Corvino on several occasions during this transfer window, but Sergio has come to an agreement with Monaco and we are just waiting to make that official. We hope to have everything in place by the end of the week.”
Almiron will ply his trade in Ligue 1 until June when Monaco will probably be given the chance to make the deal permanent should Juve successfully bring Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko to the Stadio Olimpico.

Not really given a proper chance, and Ranieri would rather add players to the midfield we dont need.

Marchisio would be an improvement imo. He has settled in well at Empoli.

Would he start ahead of Zanetti or Nocerino though? That's my point.

He gives us an option we dont have or 1 which is more useful than Tiago. Zanetti and Nocerino is fine if every1 is fit, otherwise our mid just cant create anything. Even a man advantage vs Inter couldn't help that midfield. We need to change something.
With Camo and Marchionni taking turns getting injured, Tiago and Almiron not convincing Ranieri, Im confused y Marchisio and Giovinco arent at Juve.

How bad have our signings been this season?!
Even Iaquinta has tailed off.
Next season it's vital we don't repeat this. I'm not confident.

He's snubbed a move to Palermo while apparently teams who will be in the CL next season have also shown an interest. All we know for sure is that he won't be wearing a Juventus again.

Tiago, Andrade, Almiron, Marchionni, and Belardi should all be sold.
