Almiron - Joins Fiorentina on loan

Juventus are in pole position to sign Empoli midfielder Sergio Almiron, confirmed the player’s agent Claudio Vagheggi.

The Argentine, who has been a key figure in Tuscany over the last two years, is wanted by several major clubs as recently confirmed by club President Fabrizio Corsi.

“At this moment in time Almiron is closer to Juventus than to other clubs,” said Vagheggi this afternoon.

“The Turin outfit has expressed its interest and has been more convincing than others, keeping constant contact with Empoli.

“Sergio however is also liked by Inter, who we will speak with shortly. In any case I want one thing to be clear, dismissing what was written on Tuttosport that the lad prefers Juventus.

“This is not true, Almiron is a professional, who is proud of being courted by so many important clubs.”

Vagheggi believes his client’s future could be with Inter, but that will probably depend on their other market moves.

“The player is valued at something between £3.5 and £7m, Juve are ready but we are considering other interesting offers as well, like the one from Inter,” he added.

“Sergio’s future with them depends on David Pizarro’s co-ownership. I think the Chilean will stay at Roma, so…don’t make me add anything else.”

So you're expecting some sort of player swap deal?

I think so. With the amount of talented youngsters Juve have, I imagine some co-owenerships will be included to lessen the price. It will give them more playing time and give Juve management a better idea if they are sound long term investments.

Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi has encouraged Inter Milan to rival Juventus in their interest for midfielder Sergio Almiron.

"We haven't heard from Juventus for around 20 days," revealed Corsi. "They obviously have had some internal issues that needed to be addressed.

"But they're not alone in their interest in Almiron. There are two other Italian clubs and also some from England and Russia.

"For the qualities he has, I believe Almiron would serve Inter very well. He would fit nicely into the way (coach Roberto) Mancini likes to play."

Sergio Almiron could be just days away from completing his move from Empoli to Italian giants Juventus.

The switch has been on the cards for some time now and a transfer will reportedly be finalised at some stage on Wednesday.

Empoli sporting director Giuseppe Vitale is set to meet with Juve counterpart Alessio Secco in the middle of the week to complete negotiations.

The midfielder is expected to be signed for around £5m in an agreement which will see Matteo Paro move to Tuscany in a co-ownership deal.

The Argentine has reportedly already accepted a four-year contract worth around £1m a year in terms of salary.

Almiron, born in Santa Fe in November 1980, moved to Italy in 2001 when Udinese swooped while he was with Newell’s Old Boys.

He joined Empoli in August 2004 after spending the previous campaign on loan at then Serie B side Verona.
