Del Piero back in the spotlight
“I’m happy to be back and happy that we won this afternoon. It was a very positive day”. Alex Del Piero was back in action this afternoon after almost a month out and he quickly set about bombarding the goal, showing a great understanding with his team mates: “It went well with both Palladino and Zalayeta but I think the whole team played really well against a strong Verona. I had a few chances but Pegolo was on great form. Seeing as we won today, you could say we were ok for goals…”.

After his appearance against Mantova I make that 499 total appearances for Juventus.
Tomorrow could be a historic day for Del Piero if he plays against Cesena.

Ah okay, I knew he was getting close.
He's closing in on Scirea and Furino now.

Lippi: “Del Piero, symbol of Italian football”
“Del Piero is one of the few icons left in Italian football”. Speaking about the Bianconeri captain was Marcello Lippi, in town for the launch of the Salvatore Lo Presti football annual. “Alex is a fine example of professionalism – continued the World Cup winning coach – as he showed this summer, when, right in the thick of the ‘Calciopoli’ scandal, he pledged his allegiance to Juventus without hesitation. He’s a symbol of not only this club, but also of Italian football as a whole”. And on what is to be the captain’s 500th appearance for the club this Saturday. “I don’t know whether that’s a record, but I know the 200 plus goals he’s scored for Juventus certainly are. More than anything else, these records bear witness to just how much he’s done for his team and just how great a champion Alex is, both from a footballing and a human perspective”.

Nice comments, Lippi and Del Piero have a lot of respect for each other.

Yeah. Alex never let Lippi down (even in the WC) and Lippi managed Alex for a large chunk of his career and during some his best seasons.
