Default Trezeguet retires from international football

He's not happy with the amount of games he's getting for France and as a result he's considering retirement. Domenech is an idiot, as far as I'm concerned Trezeguet is the best box striker in the world at the moment.

I was very surprised he didn't play that much in the WC. Trez can be virtually invisible for the majority of the game, but somehow manage to score! But he will always hold a special place in my heart for missing his PK and helping us win the WC

That's one way of looking at it but it's wasted talent in my opinion.

Just look at his international record, it's phenomenal.

I would have to disagree with the bit about best box striker in the world, I would have to say that would be Ruud van Nistelrooy atm who is on absolute fire for RM with 13 goals already this season in all comps.

But Trez is definetly one of the best.

I guess it depends on your taste. The reason I'd take Trezeguet over Ruud is because of his superior arial threat. When on form my top three would be:

1. Trezeguet
2. Inzaghi
3. Van Nistelrooy

Luca Toni would be in contention as well but it depends whether you class him as a box striker.

Trez puts club over country Friday 19 October, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus hitman David Trezeguet has revealed that he is considering international retirement, but is happy with life in Turin.

Despite netting seven times already this term, Trezeguet wasn’t selected in Raymond Domenech’s latest France squad.

“I’m seriously considering quitting international football,” he admitted.

“I have been playing for France since 1997 and those 10 years are a long time to me.

“Now though Domenech is choosing not to pick me and I think that the way he has treated me is frankly unacceptable.”

It remains to be seen whether or not the ex-Monaco man will be selected for Les Bleus’ crucial trip to Ukraine, but he has already indicated that he may refuse the call.

While his international career is causing him misery, Trezeguet is delighted that Alessandro Del Piero has committed to the Bianconeri.

“I’m happy that Del Piero has renewed his contract until 2010 as he is a real leader of this team,” the 30-year-old enthused.

“This is the eighth season that Alex and I have played together here. We have achieved great things and I promise that there are more to come.

“We know that we aren’t equal to Inter, Milan and Roma, but we are Juventus so we will give our best.”

The Juve faithful are already looking forward to Week 11’s crunch match against Inter – the hotly-contested Derby d’Italia and the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to his former club.

“The game against Inter will be important for us players, the fans and the whole club,” Trezeguet concluded.

“It’s only natural that there would be such anticipation after everything that has happened.

“Ibrahimovic is one of the most complete players I know and he is letting everyone know that. I wish him all the best.”

I would add crespo/morientes to that list as well. But morientes when he was younger wasn't just a box striker.

Domenech is an idiot. Let him put his faith in a youngster like benzema who has only played 15 games at the highest level(questionable due to the french leagues weakness).

He's been left out of the squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier against the Ukraine.

Trez’s Euro 2008 despair Friday 1 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus striker David Trezeguet admits that his Euro 2008 dream is fading after being left out of Raymond Domenech’s latest squad.

Despite leading this term’s Serie A Capocannoniere chart, Trez won’t feature in France’s upcoming friendlies against Congo and Spain as Domenech has once more snubbed him.

It seems that personal differences between the Bianconeri marksman and Les Blues’ Coach could rule the 30-year-old out of this summer’s big event in Austria and Switzerland and the prolific striker seems resigned to missing out.

“I don’t have great hope for Euro 2008,” Trezeguet admitted to L’Equipe.

“Despite Domenech’s claims in the past that he picks his team according to the way players perform for their clubs, I believe he always picks to fit his system.”

Trezeguet was selected for the World Cup in Germany, but he spent most of the tournament warming the bench before missing the crucial spot-kick in the Final against Italy.

“I don’t want to repeat what happened at the World Cup - I want things to be clear from the start,” Trez insisted.

“At the moment I’m obviously not amongst the top three or four French strikers.”

Trezeguet hasn't made the France squad for Euro 2008.
