Arrow MD36: Siena - Juventus

Siena - Juventus

Stadio Artemio Franchi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siena will be hoping to add to Juventus’ woes when they meet at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The Tuscans are still not safe from relegation but could greatly increase their chances of survival with a shock win against the reigning champions. Juve could be about to let that title slip through their hands though, as a loss of form has set up a dramatic end to the season.

La Vecchia Signora seemed to have the title sewn up when they held second placed Milan to a draw at the Delle Alpi but a run of five matches without a win has seen their lead evaporate. Their advantage has now been cut to just three points and with three games weeks remaining they could see the top spot snatched away from them unless they can turn their form around.

A loss of confidence has been blamed but failure to beat relegation strugglers Treviso and Cagliari underlined their current frailties. Another disappointing result here could see the Rossoneri close the gap even further and the absence of Mauro Camoranesi through suspension could prove costly.

Siena are now without a win in six matches though and now find themselves in serious danger of being sucked into the relegation zone. They still have a six-point advantage over third from bottom Messina, but this game could be crucial to their survival. A win could see their survival guaranteed if other results go their way but a defeat could see them fall within three points of the drop with just two matches to go.

Their difficult final run-in of Juve, Inter and Livorno does not look promising but their fate is well and truly in their own hands. Four points from their final three fixtures would see them safe regardless of developments elsewhere.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siena: Mirante; Foglio, Tudor, Legrottaglie, Falsini; Alberto, Paro, Vergassola; Locatelli; Chiesa, Bogdani

Juventus: Buffon; Zambrotta, Thuram, Cannavaro, Balzaretti; Mutu, Emerson, Vieira, Nedved; Trezeguet, Del Piero

Not sure what to expect here, but this is not an easy place to play.

This is a must win game at all costs.

If that ends up being the correct lineup then I'll be delighted because Balzaretti and Del Piero deserve to be in the team ahead of Zebina and Zlatan. Having said that the most important thing is that we win and I don't care how we do it.

I doubt Balza will be too impressed that he's 'allowed' to play right-back. We need an actual right-sided wingback for that position, I don't even consider Zebina in that role. Zebina is just poop on a stick.
Alex does deserve to be ahead of Ibra right now, no doubt. We need ball to ripple net. If this is another draw, touch wood a loss then we've lost the title 'in dramatic fashion', the press will lead the world to believe.

He may end up playing LB though seen as Zambrotta is so comfortable on the right.

Is he though? He's never as potent on the right when playing as wingback.

I think he plays just as well on the right but I know for sure that Balzaretti is more comfortable on the left so I'd give him the preference due to his lack of experience.

I don't care whether we win the game with a dodgey penalty in the 95th minute, as long as we win I'll be happy.

i wont. a dodgy 95th minute goal doesn't show a strong juve, it shows a lucky one. not to mention its siena! we play palermo next week, which is not going to be an easy game. we need confidence going in, and a comfortable win against a team we should have no problem beating is 1 way to do that.

Well I'd love for us to beat Siena comfortably as much as the next Juve fan but at this stage of the season all that matters is that we get the 3 points. A 1-0 win is worth as much as a 4-0 win and right now we need wins not performances.

i know, 3pts is 3pts, but with palermo in mind, team morale needs a comfortable win. seriously, if we cant beat siena in style, how do u expect us to do against palermo? last time we played them we were lucky to come out with a win imo, they worked us for a big part of the 2nd half.

I think we'll beat Palermo this time though as we're at home.

Of course a good win against Siena would help but it's not neccessary in my opinion.

What about Zlatan vs Legro?

Basically it's Juve against Juve B team, in theory we should win this.

Awesome frantic start. That's what we want all season next campaign, and with that 30m or thereabouts influx, is what Moggi will be looking to achieve. Players to deliver that tempo, that intent for much longer than the opening 8 minutes.

Vieira man of the match for me, perhaps this is his time to shine once more. The final 3 games, to win himself a medal and plaudits of his team-mates for him helping keep the club afloat of the chasing pack.

Job done today. 2 more to go.
