Cabrini: One step at a time
Quote:
Juventus legend Antonio Cabrini has cooled talk of the 2008 Scudetto. “Let’s win promotion first,” he stated.
Bianconeri President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli told fans recently that the club would be looking to win the title next season, following their demotion earlier this year.
But Cabrini, who won everything there was to win with the Old Lady, insists the team must focus on one objective at a time.
“What is needed for Juventus to win the Serie A title? They must firstly win Serie B,” he reminded everyone.
“The Bianconeri must primarily do enough to win promotion, keep working hard and then make as few wrong decisions as possible.”
The Turin giants are expected to reinforce their squad after the mass exodus over the summer and the World Cup winner admits that they need to bring in new faces.
“If a team wants to reach the top in Italy then they need six or seven top quality players, with the introduction of four or five younger elements,” he added.
Palermo stopper Andrea Barzagli is being heavily linked and the former international has given the proposed swoop his seal of approval.
“He is a player of a certain quality,” he noted. “However, it is still too soon to be talking about him. Promotion first…”
Juventus are currently second in the table, one point behind Napoli after the 4-1 win over Lecce on Saturday afternoon.

It'll depend on who we get in the summer. Personally I don't think we'll sign that many new players (especially with the amount that'll return from being out on loan) so a title bid next season is probably pushing it. After a year back in Serie A we should be ready and players like Paro and Marchisio will have matured as well.

It all depends on how much money is available. As long as our defence is sorted, ill be happy.

The defence needs the most work in my opinion.
Buffon, Balzaretti, Birindelli, Chiellini and Kovac are fine but Legrottaglie, Tudor and Boumsong are all questionable.
We need at least one class CB, most likely Barzagli.

Balzaretti---Felipe----Barzagli----Chiellini is what im hoping for. Kovac has been shite of late, compared to his performances in the world cup. Boumsong is ok, but not starter material.

Good, and he would probably be cheaper than Felipe, but he isn't as versatile (Felipe can play as fb) and is slightly less experienced. Felipe has been at Udinese since 2002 I think. Not sure about Zapata, but I dont think he has been in Italy as long.
As long as we get Barzagli ill be happy. Grygera from Ajax will be available for free this summer (I think), and he has been linked alot the past few weeks.

Yeah, Zapata is two or three years younger than Felipe.
As for Grygera, I've always thought of him as more of a RB. Can he play in the centre?

I have no clue lol. From the transfer speculation of the past few weeks, they seem to imply it would be for a cb role. Not sure. Havent seen much of him.

Interesting. Him and Biri as rb, with Balza and Chiellin as lb. Not bad.

That'll be too many quality FB's in my opinion. I'd rather we gave one of the Primavera players a few games than sign someone like Grygera who'll want to play every week. Just look what happened with Zebina (although his contract situation contributed as well).
I'll be happy if we sign Barzagli, he's a beast.

Zebina was going to be sold last January, but Capello blocked that deal. Ever noticed how Zebina is always injured around transfer time? He is a decent player, but always finds a way to piss off the fans.

I always preferred Zebina as a CB, he's useless as a RB.
I thought he was out of line to ask for a pay rise though and in the end Balzaretti quite rightly played more games than he did.
