Default Capello in Barca Trez claim

Juventus chief Fabio Capello has revealed David Trezeguet came close to joining Barcelona last summer.

Trezeguet's future at Juve was the subject of intense speculation last summer with a number of clubs believed to be keen on his services.

Chelsea were strongly linked with the French international, but Capello has revealed that Barcelona were close to landing Trezeguet before he intervened to persuade the former Monaco man to stay in Turin.

"I spoke to David when he was close to signing his transfer to Barcelona," said Capello.

"Had I not intervened, we would be dealing with a different story.

"Here at Juve we are a group, a team and no-one takes decisions without consulting the others."

Default Juve close in on Maxwell

Juventus are considering a move for Ajax's Maxwell.

The Brazilian has refused to sign a contract extension with Ajax, and unless he does so he will be free to leave the Dutch side next summer.

Reports in Italy suggest that Juventus will agree terms with the defender in January, with Maxwell keen to test himself in a stronger league and the Turin side eager to reinforce their backline.

Fabio Capello has an ageing defence, and is casting his eye over various teams for possible new players.

I've hears good things about Maxwell. I believe he has been linked with Milan and Chelsea in the past.
We do need to look at bringing in some outstanding young talent soon.

Moggi wouldn't have accepted anything less than 15m.
..I'm glad we didn't sell him, he's in the form of his life this season. ::nw::

Default Pires almost joined Juve

Arsenal's Robert Pires has confirmed that he almost joined Juventus this summer in the same deal that took Patrick Vieira to Turin.

Juve were known to be interested throughout the summer and Pires has now revealed that talks were at an advanced stage, but Arsene Wenger decided that he wanted to keep the former Marseille man at Highbury and refused to sanction the move.

"This summer there were really close contacts with Juventus," Pires stated.

"But I had another year's deal with Arsenal and Wenger didn't allow me to leave.

"It wasn't my decision, but I'm happy for what happened because many people told me I would have problems in playing, instead I am playing and Henry continues scoring thanks to my assists."

Pires, out of contract in the summer, reiterated that he will finalise his Arsenal future in January - but if he should leave then it will be to Spain or Italy.

"For the moment I give everything for the jersey I'm wearing," he told Corriere dello Sport.

"In January I'll meet Wenger and the club, and we will talk and we will decide.

"Should I have to leave, I wouldn't stay in England. I'd like Italy or Spain.

"But now I think about Arsenal, then we will see.

"Juve are a big team and should they come back and follow me, I'd be ready to listen to them.

"I like Italy and Juve, but I repeat, I don't offer myself. I'm here, should they want me - but before I want to talk with Arsenal."

Juventus don't need him.It would be a pointless signing in my opinion.
