Juve and Roma track Martinez Tuesday 4 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus and Roma are expected to compete for the signature of Catania star Jorge Martinez in the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan arrived at the Stadio Massimino from Montevideo side Nacional for less than Ł2m, despite competition from Villarreal.
Martinez has already found the net five times in 13 games this term and a long queue of potential suitors is forming.
“He is a youngster with great talent,” Catania executive Pietro Lo Monaco declared.
“We have received lots of offers for him and at the end of the season we will weigh up what we are going to do.”
Roma boss Luciano Spalletti reportedly sees Martinez as a potential replacement for wantaway Brazilian ace Amantino Mancini, while Juventus could turn to him in the search for Pavel Nedved’s heir.

Certainly more useful than Olivera. If the price is right, sure, but he isn't a "Nedved heir". He isn't a proven star yet.

Mascherano? Italian papers are saying were interested. With the way Zanetti and Nocerino are playing, it would be a waste of money, although Mascherano is an awesome player.
Shevchenko is the other name, lol.

Shevchenko? Nah.
Mascherano is quality, I just think we need another creative midfielder though.

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has revealed that the club are negotiating a deal to bring Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar to the club.
The 24-year-old signed for Ajax from Heerenveen in 2005 and he has since hit 76 goals in just 94 games.
The prolific hitman has been in brilliant form this campaign scoring 13 goals in as many matches in the Eredivisie.
Huntelaar has already made it known that he will be leaving Amsterdam at the end of the current season in order to move abroad, and it now seems that his destination will be Turin.
“Yes, we are negotiating a deal for Huntelaar of Ajax,” Cobolli Gigli told the Corriere dello Sport today.
Juventus have long been admirers of Huntelaar, and were linked with a move for him before the outbreak of the Calciopoli crisis in 2006.
They were also set to make a firm bid for him this summer when David Trezeguet threatened to leave the club. However the Frenchman signed a new contract and the idea was scrapped.
Given Huntelaar’s similarity to Trezeguet, it seems likely that Juventus consider the Dutchman as a long-term replacement for the current Serie A top-scorer.
Huntelaar, who has had limited chances in the Dutch national team under Marco Van Basten, will not move to Turin until the summer if negotiations are successful.

Goal.com - Juventus - Official: Juventus Negotiating With Ajax For Huntelaar
According to an Italian paper, so he was probably taken out of context or baited with the question. Still, Juve have been following him for a while, so I wont be surprised if he does become a Juve player. Apparently Bettega negotiated an option on Huntelaar b4 he left, but I dont believe that. Other clubs could have offered more to secure that option.

Mascherano would be an amazing signing. He's out of contract in the summer aswell.
Aren't we best getting Huntelaar in 2 years if we have the option?

I dont believe the option rumour, but it was only for 1 yr. Apparently Juve paid Ajax 1+ mil for it. Sounds illegal to me.

Newspaper reports in Italy claim Frank Lampard is just £700,000 away from agreeing terms with Juventus.
The Chelsea midfielder has long been a target for the club, even more so after former Stamford Bridge boss Claudio Ranieri took charge in the summer.
Lampard has been linked with a move away from England after contract renegotiations hit problems.
Under new rules he is allowed to walk away for a relatively small fee in June, as he is over 28 years old and has already seen out a portion of his contract.
According to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, a deal with Juve is already in place with just one small stumbling block.
Juve are willing to offer £4m per season, but Lampard is demanding £4.7m to make the move.
The difference is minimal, but could have repercussions, as World Cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is also on £4m a year and a delicate balance exists in the locker room.
There is also another proviso on the summer transfer, as any agreement would be null and void if Juventus failed to qualify for the Champions League.

I hope this is bullshit. No1, let alone a new signing, deserves to be making more than Buffon.

Olof Mellberg has admitted he is ready to quit Villa Park at the end of this season - and move to Juventus.
The Swedish international is out of contract in the summer and has yet to agree a new deal with Villa. Boss Martin O'Neill admitted recently that he still intends to try to persuade the centre back to extend his seven-year stint with the club, and hopes to set up talks before Christmas.
But now it appears that 29-year-old Mellberg is determined to move on and test himself in Serie A with Juventus.
O'Neill has been angered by suggestions Mellberg is being touted around by his representatives - and the defender did little to dampen speculation about his possible move to Turin, by saying: "Juventus, I cannot deny it."

The deal to bring Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard to Juventus next season could be signed and sealed by Christmas, according to reports in Italy and England.
The Times newspaper says that Lampard will utilize a FIFA transfer clause to sign for the Bianconeri in the summer.
As the ex-West Ham man is over the age of 28, and has already seen out most of his current contract, Chelsea are powerless to let him leave for a cut-price sum.
Italian newspaper ‘Leggo’ has also reported on the matter, and there are more claims that Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco will fly to London before Christmas to complete the deal.
Secco has already held extensive talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy last month, and it is believed that there are only a few formalities to complete.
Lampard will agree to a cut in wages in order to hook up with Claudio Ranieri, the man who launched his career by signing him for Chelsea from West Ham in 2001.
The 29-year-old has since developed into of the most prolific goalscoring midfielders in Europe, and he has netted 20 plus goals for the past two seasons.

Van der Vaart told a dutch magazine/website called Voetbal International, that he will only leave HSV for a top European club, and he consider Juventus to be 1 of these clubs. According to dutch Juve fans, the source is fairly reliable.
Ranieri is considering Diego or VDV for January to add some creativity to the squad since Camo is injured again, and has barely featured this season. Most likely VDV, since he is the cheaper of the 2, and more versatile. We already have a creative playmaker in Giovinco, so spending alot on Diego wouldn't be smart.

Here is an english version of that VDV story from the Dutch media.
Quote:
The HSV captain says that he’s aware of La Vecchia Signora’s interest and sees a move to Italy feasible. “I already know that there’s something going on here,” he told the Voetbal International magazine.
“If they come up with a concrete offer then I will listen to it in any case. I will only leave Hamburg for a club of a higher stature. Juventus certainly meet this criteria and their interest doesn’t really surprise me.”
Van Der Vaart’s move to Valencia last August fell through in the very last minute with HSV’s call, but things have changed since then. The spectacular playmaker, worth at least 20 million euros, is under contract up until June 30, 2010, but according to a special clause would be able to leave the club a year earlier for just one million!
The former Ajax star said on October 18 that he’ll play for Hamburg until the end of the current season and a few weeks later, on November 24, he didn’t rule out a possible contract extension. His current employers have reportedly offered him a deal until June 30, 2012, with a significant pay-rise. The 24-year-old’s current salary is estimated at two million.
But it seems like he’s already set his mind on leaving. “I think that HSV are prepared to open talks should another club lay the money on the table.” he said.
However, Van Der Vaart is poised in proving himself as a man of his word, excluding a January move. “I have never left a club in the middle of a season and therefore I won’t do it now either.”
