Italy’s striking exports Luca Toni and Giuseppe Rossi continue to fire on all cylinders, but there are fears over Azzurri stopper Gianluca Zambrotta.

Toni is enjoying life in the Bundesliga since his £7m summer move from Fiorentina to Bayern Munich and wrote himself on the scoresheet once more last night.

The giant hitman scored Bayern’s third in their 5-0 demolition of Brandenburg minnows Energie Cottbus to take his tally to five goals in six games in Germany.

Parma youth product Rossi is also in fine form and he followed up his brace agaist Real Murcia last weekend with a strike in Villarreal’s 2-0 win over Racing Santander.

However, there was also worrying news from La Liga as Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta limped off in the Blaugrana’s 4-1 thrashing of Real Zaragoza.

It appears that the ex-Juventus man has torn muscle tissue and may face as long as two months out of action which could rule him out of Italy’s vital November 17 clash with Scotland.

Zambro wants Milan in Jan Wednesday 5 December, 2007

Milan look increasingly likely to make a January swoop for Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta.

The ex-Juventus star is believed to be desperate to return to the peninsula as his wife is homesick and the Rossoneri have been following him for some time.

Diavolo Vice-President Adriano Galliani has ruled out any transfer activity before June, but it is now being suggested that a move may take place sooner rather than later.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, Zambrotta is frustrated at finding less and less space in the Barça side and is keen to talk to Milan as soon as possible.

There are still two years left on the 30-year-old’s contract at the Nou Camp, but it is expected that a fee of just £3m would be enough to convince the Blaugranas to release him.

Zambrotta has made 46 appearances for the Catalan giants since arriving in the summer of 2006 in the aftermath of the Calciopoli scandal.

I would jump at the oppertunity to get Zambro, I know he isn't exactly but he will be perfect. With Sergio, Cafu and Favalli all set to move it will be good to have someone who can play both right and left. THough we can wait until June but hey...

Recently Zambrotta hasn't been playing well and he's been disappointing since joining Barca. At the moment Rijkaard will drop him and play Puyol at RB with Marquez-Milito in the centre or sub him on the 60th minute for Marquez.

Agent: No Zambro move in Jan Thursday 6 December, 2007

Gianluca Zambrotta’s agent has stressed that the Azzurri defender won’t join Milan in January.

The Barcelona stopper is said to be unsettled in Spain and is reportedly looking to return to the peninsula to be close to his family and at the request of his homesick wife.

Despite Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani’s insistence that the European champions won’t be signing in January, Zambrotta had been linked in the Spanish newspapers with a New Year switch.

“He certainly won’t move in January,” Zambrotta’s agent Marcello Bonetto insisted in El Mundo Deportivo.

“The Spanish Press are renowned for writing with poor information and are scarcely trustworthy.

“It’s far too early to talk about a move to Milan for Zambrotta, even though we know that the Rossoneri have high regard for my client.

“I don’t think that there has been any direct contact between the two clubs.

“He was in Como recently and even then there was no meeting with Milan as they are a club who proceed through the correct channels and they would talk to Barcelona first.

“Zambrotta still has three years on his contract and it’s not true that he has problems with Barcelona. His first priority is to win something with the Blaugranas.

“Obviously an Italian player with family near Milan would see a move to the Diavolo as a good option, but for now it is just a statement of intent.”

Zambro chasers must wait Wednesday 9 January, 2008

Azzurri defender Gianluca Zambrotta has reasserted that he won’t be leaving Barcelona before the end of the season.

The former Juventus man has long been a target for Milan but is also reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.

Zambrotta is believed to be keen to move on after struggling for space in the Barça side and the Rossoneri became favourites to sign him after reports that his wife Valentina is homesick.

However, it seems that the battle for his signature will have to wait until the summer.

“Gianluca will be staying at Barcelona at least until June, then we will see,” agent Marcello Bonetto told Skysports.com.

“He has a contract until 2010 and I haven’t heard anything from Barça about contact with other clubs. I know absolutely nothing about interest from England.”

Zambrotta left Italy after the Calciopoli scandal and has made 46 appearances for the Nou Camp giants.

I think Zambrotta will push for a move rather than Barca selling him. Zambrotta is almost always a sub over the last 2 months although could be starting over the next few weeks as Yaya is going to the African Nations and Edmilson is injured for 2-3 weeks which might mean that Marquez goes to DM and Zambrotta slots back into RB.
