Fabio Grosso [Olympique Lyon] not leaving

Inter defender Fabio Grosso wants to extend his stay at the San Siro despite the rumours linking him with a summer switch.

The former Palermo man was recently paired with a move after reports fuelled speculation that the player had a difficult relationship with Coach Roberto Mancini, with Roma one possible destination.

“Grosso never had any problems with Mancini, my client isn’t the kind of person who creates tension in the dressing room,” his agent Silvio Pagliari told Teleradiostereo.

“He has no intention of leaving Inter, he likes it here and does not want to change club,” added the Nerazzurro’s manager.

“His last season was unlucky because of a number of physical problems, but he is eager to show his true value and wants to repay Inter’s trust.

“The rumours about Roma? It is my understanding that they are absolutely groundless,” concluded Pagliari.

Grosso was close to joining the Giallorossi last summer before moving to the San Siro in a £4.5m deal before excelling at the World Cup in Germany.

I have no doubts he wants to stay but whether the club are willing to keep him is a different matter altogether.

Overall Maxwell was better this season and deserves to start ahead of Grosso.

I think they will keep him. Maxwell can be useful in that he can play wing, so on some nights, they can change it up. Keeping him would be a smart move, I wouldn't write him off yet.

The French have not forgotten Fabio Grosso’s World Cup exploits and the Inter benchwarmer received an impressive offer from Olympique Lyonnais.

Grosso was the breakout star of the 2006 tournament in Germany, scoring the deciding penalty in the Final shoot-out victory over France.

Since that night in Berlin his career has stalled somewhat, with injuries and competition for places at Scudetto winners Inter reducing his Serie A appearances to just 23 this season.

The ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ claims this morning that French champions Lyon have offered a sumptuous four-year contract worth £1.7m per season compared to his current £1m wages at Inter.

The Nerazzurri would receive the same £3.7m they paid to Palermo a year ago – before the World Cup – to take the left-back.

If Roma do sell Cristian Chivu to Inter next week in a £10m deal, then Grosso is likely to move on.

The 29-year-old had a real rags to riches career, as he was playing in Serie C2 with Chieti as recently as 2001 and with Palermo in Serie B in 2004.

I'm mixed on Grosso, I think he should stay, he was injured and it took him some time to adjust to our free flowing play, where our fullbacks have freedom to carry the play.

He's considering a move.

Fabio Grosso is seriously considering a move to Olympique Lyonnais, said the Inter man’s agent.

“There has been an approach from the French side and after Eric Abidal’s transfer to Barcelona, the negotiations could take off,” explained representative Danilo Caravello.

“This could be the decisive week. Either we conclude the move to Lyon or Fabio remains at Inter.”

Although Caravello did not confirm the details of the proposal, newspapers claim Lyon have offered a four-year contract worth £1.7m per season – almost double his current wages.

“Fabio is a World Cup winner and we are carefully evaluating both the technical and economic aspects of the deal,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’

“France represents a fascinating opportunity, but we also have to take into account Fabio’s ambitions with Inter, a club where the player is happy despite an unfortunate year.”

I don't think he is going to move, I think the club is going to hold on to him, because he was wrecked by injuries.

Maxwell can play wing also, both can get playing time.

Roma should have gotten him, we could have paid him that, or somewhere close to that, and he could have stayed in italy...but i thought grosso was pretty firm on wanting to stay at inter?

He is, this "rumour" came up because of the Chivu rumour coming. Make no mistake, if Grosso leaves, they will want to replace him.

Damn Grosso gone. He's been a top defender excluding last season in Italy and it will be a shame we don't see him anymore. But he needs to start over and get more playing time.
